    Hi,

I’m wondering if it’s possible to transfer the content of my blog on WordPress to another URL at WordPress more easily than having to enter all the posts again (and losing the comments etc)?

Any helps would be greatly appreciated.

There is an import and export function for this purpose in your dashboard -> dashboard -> manage -> export -> wordpress

    (1) You can export the contents of your blog (posts, comments, categories) in the form of an xml file to your desktop and then import the xml file into the other blog site.
    (2) The blogroll categories won’t come over with the first file. The blogroll links must be separately exported and re-categorized. That means you will have to re-assign them to each link but it’s better than copying and pasting those links yet again. :)

Blogroll– If you had links, you can export them out at
`http://mydomain.tld/wp-links-opml.php’ (You must change “my domain” to your own url, of course.)
Open that exported blogroll (links) xml file. Carefully copy, paste and save the contents in a plain text editor like NotePad as a *.txt file. Be sure you are using a plain ext editor and then import it into your new blog at dashboard -> blogroll -> import Links.

Important Note: The blogroll (links) xml file needs to be saved as a *.txt doc in a plain text editor like Notepad. This is because if you were to save it as a text rich text document using for example microsoft Wordpad or Word (horrors!) those programs would add in all kinds of garbage like fonts and whatnot that mess it up for what we’re doing here.

Quick note about the blogroll. The OPML format doesn’t support categories even though they’ll be there when you do the export. Best bet would be to assign the major category for them when you go to import them as you’re going to have to reassign them afterwards anyway.

    Good luck,

    Hi guys,

This info was helpful, but would it be possible to import the xml from the previous blog to a new page in the new blog? Instead of importing all the posts into to main page of the blog.

    Or

How can we move posts from the main page into a new page of the same blog?

    Thanks!

There is only one “blog” section on each WordPress.com blog, so if what you want is a fully-functioning blog restricted to your old stuff, you need an extra blog.

@raincoaster, I just need the posts of the old blog to be inserted in a new page of a new blog. That page doesn’t need to be “fully-functional”, it just needs to contain the old posts.
    Thanks.

I am wondering the same thing as nunoromano. I just want to transfer the posts on an old blog to a page in a new blog. Anyone?

If you are wanting to put them in a static page, then you are going to have to copy and paste into the page and then create titles for each one by hand. There will be no way for people to comment on them individually and if you have a lot of posts (more than say ten) you are going to want to use the “next page” html link to break things up so that it isn’t too long.
