Transfer Domain Registration
I have my domain name registered with GoDaddy and it is coming up for renewal. I would like to register it with WP but am not sure how to do this. I don’t want to let it expire and loose the name but would like to move it to WP. Can you help?
The blog I need help with is justaskspirit.wordpress.com.
WordPress.COM is not set up to accept domain name transfers into it’s system.
You will need to keep the domain name registered elsewhere.
If you try and let the domain name expire to re-register it here you will loose the use of the name for 60 to 90 days as it drifts through the expired status and you also run the risk of a squatter grabbing the name and holding it hostage. Seen the hostage thing here several times in the Forum – not good at all.
There is no need to transfer your domain to WP even if it is possible. I don’t think you can transfer your domain to WP because WP is not a registrar.
However, if you want to use your domian name on WP blogs, then it is possible irrespective of where it is registered. I suggest look for a document called Domain Mapping on WP
Your blog can be mapped to your domian name easily.
This is the link you need most:
So all i have to do is change my DNS entries at networksolutions to these?
Isn’t there a setting here on WP i need to take care off? I’m not sure how just pointing the DNS to WP is going to direct to my blog.
All help is welcome.
The second link tells you what settings changes you need to make on WP blog. The link is here once again:
Please note you have to pay $12 for this service and your blog will be just referred to as: http://mytaxsite.co.uk or whatever name it is. I have done it so I know it and am pretty sure about it.
Okay, all done. But when i make my primary domain “mydomain.com” instead of “mydomain.wordpress.com” i lose all my menu items along the top of the page (dashboard, widgets, etc.).
Is there something else i need to do?
