Transferring to WordPress.org and Hostgator
Hey everyone, I’ve never posted in these forums before so sorry if I do something wrong. :)
Anyway, I’m wondering about something. I’m thinking of making my website a .com and hosting it on Hostgator, which I will use to download WordPress.org.
But is there any way to sort of install WordPress on my current wordpress.com blog, and have it hosted on Hostgator? Or will I have to transfer it to the downloaded wordpress.org thingy? Sorry if I can’t word it correctly…
I’ve built up some traffic and SEO on my current blog, and I don’t want to lose it — will I if I transfer the blog to WordPress.org downloaded from Hostgator?

No there is not.

No there is not
So the new website that’ll be on WordPress.org (but with my exported information) will have to start from scratch building traffic and such?
Have you already purchased a domain name of your own form wordpress.com? http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/ Or have you purchased a domain mapping upgrade to map from your wordpress.com blog to a domain you purchased somewhere else? http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/

If you’ve registered your domain through WordPress.com and now want it to point to a blog or website hosted elsewhere then you can do this by updating the nameservers. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-management/
Alternatively, are you leaving WordPress.com? Would you like to redirect yourblogname.wordpress.com (as well as all of your permalinks) to your new domain name? http://en.support.wordpress.com/site-redirect/
I’ve purchased a domain, which is my blog basically without the wordpress.com on the end.
I’m going to purchase wordpress.org too soon, and I guess, the domain mapping if I want all my stats.
Man, running a website is costly!
Yes indeed it is expensive and time consuming and that’s why I moved one of my domains back here to free hosting.
If the only reason you are moving is to monetize a blog and use plugins then I’m afraid you will be sad to find out that most bloggers, who move to self hosting with high expectations for making income discover that after their expenses are paid at the end of the year they make only pocket change. Been there – done that.
