Tried Everything - FTP Connection Refused

  1. For many weeks now I have been trying to connect to my blog. I have used all FTP clients for mac, read all the forums and seen all the videos. For some reason I just can't connect to my blog.

Currently I am using Cyberduck. Even with this software I get the same message that I got with others; "Connection Refused." I have not forgotten my password as I can still log into my site using the internet browser. I am still new to wordpress as I recently moved from blogger.

I have even used Vista thinking that it was a mac issue and used Filezilla; however, no luck there either.

My primary purpose to connect to my blog is to be able to upload new themes and plug-in. I wouldn't have posted this topic if I would have gotten my answer from the pre-existing topics.

    Please help!

The blog I need help with is

  2. This is wordpress.COM. We don't have ftp access here and can't use plugins and so you really need to be at We simply can't help you.

  3. OMG. That's what somebody over there said too, "Contact whoever is hosting your blog. This site, wordpress.ORG does not host blogs."

    So who do I ask?

  4. Okay, I see your blog now. You cannot do any of those things with a blog, including uploading themes. See the stick at the top of the forum about the differences b/w and

  5. stick = sticky

  6. I am really confused. So I cannot change the theme to something else other then the stock ones? If so, then how do the others do it who are using the WordPress blog? And also are suggesting to ask this question in .org only?

  7. Read the sticky post at the top of the forum about the difference between wordpress.COM and wordpress.ORG.

Those people who can change to any theme they want have self-hosted blog which are on third-party web hosts, which costs money. This is the free-hosting service, wordpress.COM, and there are limitations here that do not apply to self-hosted blogs.

  8. Okay thankyou ellaella and thesacredpath for clarifying!

  9. You're welcome.

  10. You're welcome and sorry for the confusion.
