Truncated Links!

On gravatr.com you wrote: “Add links to your website and blogs, or any sites that help describe who you are.” However, every time we try to add links to any external sites, they are truncated. For example, your system always shortens http://www.amazon.com/author/bobbello to http://www.amazon.com and that’s that. It does it on almost ALL links we provide at https://en.gravatar.com/profiles/edit#your-links

    Any help?

    THX

The blog I need help with is timeship.wordpress.com.

Have you tried using this format?
    https://www.amazon.com/Bob-Bello/e/B0032JED90

I also notice that the site we provide support for at https://timeship.wordpress.com/ has not been updated since June 20, 2008.

We cannot provide accurate answers to any support question unless or until we have the site URL and can verify hosting.

To save you time you can type the actual URL of the site you are referring to into http://whoishostingthis.com to determine who hosts the site so you know where to post for support.

We provide support only for sites hosted on WordPress.COM servers. You could be posting to the wrong support forum. To be clear we do not provide support for local installs of WordPress.ORG software, or for WordPress.ORG software installs on paid hosting, linked to WordPress.COM accounts with the Jetpack plugin so they display on the My Sites WordPress.COM account page.

WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

The wordpress.ORG support forum is at http://wordpress.org/support.
The wordpress.ORG login link is here https://login.wordpress.org/
If you do not have an account yet then click Create an account https://login.wordpress.org/register/
If you have lost an account password click Lost password? https://login.wordpress.org/lostpassword/
WordPress.org support docs are at https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page
See also https://apps.wordpress.org/support/ for app support.

Thanks for the reply. I posted the question directly on the link provided at http://www.gravatar.com – If you don’t host Gravatar anymore or never were, that’s another question, yet that is the link they provide ;-) THX

    Hi timeship,

I’ve looked into this but haven’t been able to replicate the behaviour you are describing. A screenshot of the link would be helpful if can make one:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/

Please upload it to your Media Library and I’ll take a look.

    Thanks!

Excuse me, a screenshot of what? How can you see the ‘truncated links’ in a screenshot? ;-) It’s in my library, anyway. THX

PS I uploaded the image in original screen size but it shrinks it, so…

    Hi timeship,

Thanks — Gravatar only supports links to top level domains in My Profile > Websites, which is why http://www.amazon.com/author/bobbello is shortened to http://www.amazon.com — even though the preview image is correct on the editing screen.

As a workaround, the link you have already added to your bio could be made clickable using this HTML:

    <a href="http://www.amazon.com/author/bobbello">Amazon - Bobbello</a>

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for workaround, but it doesn’t work on the Gravatar page. It allows only Link URL and Link Title, no codes. See the new screenshot. THX

    Hi –

I’m following up for gemmacevans here…

Just to clarify, you tried to add the following HTML to the bio section?

    Amazon – Bobbello

PS If you can’t reach it, then look here: https://en.gravatar.com/timeship – scroll all the way down to Website Links and try all links. All except one (WP), do not lead to my pages, but to their main URLs: Amazon, Facebook, CDbaby, etc. That was my question from the very first post of this topic. THX

    Hmm. Strange.

I added https://www.amazon.com/Bob-Bello/e/B0032JED90 to my websites section of my own Gravatar section with the label of “Author”.

Now, when I click through that “Author” link I am brought to the correct Amazon author page.

However, if I back out of Gravatar a bit, and use the profile link to see my full profile the Amazon author preview for “Author” link is showing a generic Amazon page, and when I click the link it takes me to the Amazon home page rather than the author page.

I think this is what you’ve been trying to explain to me. Sorry, it took me so long!

If you like, I can try to help you get these custom links set up in the bio section of the profile.
