Trying to get rid of the line under my post footer

  1. I added a 'Post Separator' under each post. I'm trying to get rid of the faint, but visible line above this (under the 'filed in'. Any help? I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

    The blog I need help with is

  2. Can anyone help me with this? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

  3. Add this to the ".post-footer" definition:

    border: none;

    BTW, are your blog title and menu supposed to be way down your header image?

  4. There you are! I had a feeling you'd be able to help me! Thanks.

    As far as your question, if you're asking if the blog 'description' and menu bar are supposed to be in the white area under my header image... yes. Is that not right? I'm trying to figure out if I want to make the 'description' (my blog title is "a little of this, a little of that") appear within my header somewhere, but I haven't looked into that yet.

  5. yes, that's what I'm talking about. It's totally fine if you wanna have it like that, but if you don't mind, I'd like to suggest moving the menu bar a bit higher... there is a big gap between the "description" and the menu, and a small one between the menu and the contents... in my opinion, that doesn't look too aesthetic. Just my opinion.

  6. Hmm.. I see what you're saying. I'll play with the CSS tonight. I think I will put the "a little of this, a little of that" as the blog title and have it somewhere that looks good within the header image as it should be. I'm assuming I would add the text in on the dashboard, 'Custom Header Image', then alter the code?

    What paddings/margins do you suggest for the menu bar and the space between the header footer and the content of the blog. Thanks for all your help!

    btw: don't know if you read my latest blog post, but I referenced all the great help I've received in these forums lately; ie: mainly you, of course!

  7. No, I haven't read your post, but thank you for the shout out.

    Now, the blog title: "ImAprilE's Blog" its color is too dark and I didn't see it till later... I would suggest to make the text either white or move it up so that it's on the old paper (right above the picture frames).

    Blog description: "A little of this, a little of that". I think it looks good right where it is. The only thing I would do is to move the menu up and leave more space in between it and the contents.

    Now, if you're going to use the "A little of this, a little of that" as the blog title, you'd need to replace the current text: "ImAprilE's Blog" then, yes, alter the code to either move it up or make the text color lighter. Either way, you'd need to alter the code.

    Also, I would suggest adding a bit of margin between your posts and your signature, currently they look too close... perhaps if you added 10px more?

    As soon as I have a chance, I'll post my suggested code for the menu.

  8. I just added the title, "ImAprilE's Blog", and I'm trying to figure out how to get it aligned in the area either between the two small pic frames on the left, or as you mentioned, in the lighter color paper up top. I'll have to wait to play around with the code when I get home. The 'preview' screen doesn't work at work so I'm "playing in the dark!"

    I think I'll leave the "a little..." where it is... it's my tagline, kinda. I look foward to getting your code suggestions! Thanks again.

  9. Code suggestions:

    You have these selectors:

    h1#title a:hover,div#title a:hover {

    You don't need the second one "div#title a:hover". Get rid of it so that your definition looks like this:

    #title a:hover {

    To move the title up, you need this:

    #header #title a {
    margin: -100px 0 0;

    And to move the menu bar up, change the "margin" value from "100px" to "50px".

    See if that works for you.

  10. You're awesome! Everything is much better now, except I didn't change the margin for the menu that much as it would have put it inside the header image. I did however,move it up by 7 pixels and then moved up the padding beneath it to move the green bar up too. I also decreased the amount of space in-between the green header bar and the first post; sidebar too for proportion.

    What do you think? Better?

    Oh, and in case I forgot... thank you so much for all your help this past week! You really have taught me alot!

  11. I'm glad I could be of assistance.

    Personally, I still thing is too cluttered. I'm a web developer, and in my professional opinion, the menu should be higher than where it currently is. However, what really matters is what you want. If you like it how it looks right now, don't mind what I say.

    Having said that, your blog looks great!

  12. I'll think about it some more, however I really appreciate your advice. I tried moving the blog title to left align and then moved down inbetween the two small pic frames on the left, then moved the menu all the way up and right aligned... however, then everything below my header went completely out of whack! It frustrated me since I didn't know which attribute to change to fix it. I'll work on it more over the next few days, unless you know a magic solution? Also, I noticed today that IE shows my blog title being cut off at the top, but Firefox is fine. Odd?

  13. @imaprile
    I'm aware that you probably will not like what I have to say, but I think that honesty is the best policy.

    (1) I'm viewing your blog on a PC at home that has a 17 inch monitor. On my PC that huge geader of your occupies most of my screen and compels me to scroll and scroll and scroll. If I were a regular reader that would drive me crazy so I would not visit the blog at all. I would subscribe and rarely every click in and comment, assuming I was interested in the blog contents.

    If I was viewing your blog on a laptop with an even smaller monitor size I would simply click out and not return again because the oversized header would fill the screen completely and I would have to scroll, scroll, and scroll even more than I have to do now on my PC.

    Also note that -- the average PDA / cell phone user has a completely different average screen metric to that of the average PC. desktop

    (2) I am a minimalist. I go to blogs to read posts. I find that they rest of your layout is so cluttered and busy that the "little bits of this and that" distract me away from reading your content.

    (3) Conclusion:
    If you anticipate that your blog will have a very small readership primarily composed of your current readers then what you have created won't be problematic. However, if you want this blog to become one that attracts an ever growing membership then CSS editing you have done will be problematic.

  14. I am visually challenged and I apologize for the typos I made above above:
    In (1) "geader" was meant to be "header"
    In (2) "they" was meant to be "the"

  15. @timethief, I guess we'll agree to disagree on this.

  16. Thanks for accepting my constructive criticism graciously. I appreciate the fact that you did and I wish you well with your blogging.
