turning off related posts?

Someone commented on my last post and suggested I “turn off related posts” — I don’t really know what that means, but I searched in Forums and read some instructions to go to DESIGN/EXTRA. I didn’t see “design” but I did see “extra” under Appearances.

So I clicked on that, and I did disable the screen previews which my daughter-in-law said were bothersome. The other choice to turn off, however, suggested that I wouldn’t get linked back traffic if I turned it off. Was that the thing I was SUPPOSED to turn off? And if I do disable it, what exactly am I accomplishing.

Thanks for any advice you can offer

The blog I need help with is sharisaxisoutthere.wordpress.com.

There are some people that get some hits from the possibly related posts, but some people don’t like the fact that it leads people away from their blog.

Basically its an uncontrolled link exchange. You have no control over what links they put on your blog, nor do you have any control over where they put links to your blog. They try hard to put the links on relevant sites, but it does not always work out.

I’m trying to understand this: SO are you suggesting that I should DISABLE the link exchange feature that I saw under “Appearance/Extras”?

That is a decision you will have to make. As I said, some like the link exchange and some do not. Personally I don’t think for most bloggers that it amounts to to many incoming hits, but that is just based on a handful of people I know are using them. I think it also depends on the nature of the content of a blog.
