Twenty Fourteen: Highlight colours won't show correctly

I chose a bright orange instead the standard green as highlight colour on my blog, and in preview mode every part of the design that should show my chosen colour (or a lighter version for mouseovers) does exactly that. But if I visit my blog, just a fraction of highlighted elements switched to the new colour, a lot of them stays with the standard green. Mouseovers still turn to green, headers are green, the tag arrows are green, the search box opens up green, and so on. This behaviour also shows on other blogs with changed highlight colours, I haven’t seen one without the persistent green.

I’m browsing with Firefox and Chrome, both the actual versions, cache is emptied.

Thanks in advance for your help :)

The blog I need help with is

    Hello there,
I see what you mean and I have tagged this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

Hi Loretta – Thanks for the report. I’m not sure if this is intentional or not, because those accent choices only control certain aspects of the theme, but I agree there’s still a lot of green on there, so I’ve opened a bug report. I’ll keep you posted on it.

Also, you might consider the Custom Design upgrade, which will enable you to change all colors in your theme:

    Thank you, Timethief!

Eurello, thank you too for your help! As I mentioned, every single highlighted element of the theme changes to orange without any green left if I’m in the customize menu looking at the preview. After saving and returning to the standard view all the green is back. I really really hope that’s not intentional…

    Thank you :)

Oh… I just checked the blog and everything’s back to green. And the option to change highlight colours without the upgrade is gone.

    Well… :(

Hi Loretta – Yes, they’ve now removed that option; apparently it wasn’t intentional. I’m sorry for the confusion!

Thanks for the info, but it’s not making me jump with joy. Losing the option to change highlight colours at all instead fixing the bug devalues this otherwise excellent theme in my opinion a notch or two. That’s really a shame.

But nonetheless, thanks again for your help :)

Hi Loretta – The plan is to add some free color palettes to Twenty Fourteen, but I’m not sure exactly when that is going to happen. You can read more about that here:

I’ve also sent you an email about this. :)

Oh, I was a few days offline and now I’m ready to eat my earlier words – the NEW colour palettes option is FANTASTIC! Thanks a lot for your patience and now I’m off to play with the rainbow :D

The new colors are great. But once I saved another color scheme with the Twenty Fourteen theme I cannot go back to the standard (black-green) colors. Altough a message that everything is saved and published appears, but when I go to the blog, all I can see is the previous color scheme.
I really would like to get back to the standard color scheme (black/green).

Hi @taogirl007 – I’d be happy to take a look, but there’s no blog associated with your user account. Can you please link me to your site?

I’m getting the same problem – can’t save changes to the color scheme, it keeps reverting to a previous choice.

Also, the tag “featured” DOES show in the tag cloud despite the appropriate box being ticked so that it shouldn’t

    Hi Sam,

That’s because you were in the Custom Design preview. I exited that for you, and the free color templates should work for you now.

As for the featured tag showing, I can reproduce that, so I’ve opened a bug report for it.

    Howdy Sam,

does the featured tag issue still occur for you, after the following steps:

    1. Uncheck the “Hide tag” option.
    2. Check the “Hide tag” option.
    3. Save the Customizer.

This should provide a temporary work around.

I just updated the Featured Content functionality — it should work now as expected. Please let us know if you find any hiccups.
