    Hi !

    I’m using theme 20-14 and got the “customize” option.

    I like the black back ground for the top zone (sticky posts / slider) but hate the green in the default configuration and the white band on the left.

    whatever I try to change about them (i.e. change the “hoover” green for orange, the white backgr for black) is changing the black stickies background for light grey and I need to click on “default” to get it back.

    is there a way to keep this black and change the other colors ?

    The blog I need help with is parisdif.com.

    How much of the color scheme changes when using the Appearance > Customize > Colors panel depends on how the color rules are setup for each theme. I see what you mean about the featured content area turning a light color as soon as you modify the color palette. To get the black background back just for that part, you would need to also add some custom CSS to the Appearance > Customize > CSS editor. Here is an example:

    #featured-content {
    	background: #000 url(https://parisdif.wordpress.com/wp-content/themes/pub/twentyfourteen/images/pattern-dark.svg) repeat fixed;
    }

    #featured-content .hentry {
    	color: #fff;
    }

    #featured-content .entry-header {
    	background-color: #000;
    }

    #featured-content a {
    	color: #fff;
    }

    #featured-content a:hover {
    	color: #41a62a;
    }

    #featured-content .entry-meta {
    	color: #fff;
    }

    .grid #featured-content .entry-header {
    	border-color: #000;
    }

    Thanks a lot for help :)

    I’m eager to try it and, not being something of a geek, would need further explanation…

    – do I need to copy-paste exactly this text (including the url) ?

    – the CSS customization window in WP includes already some text :

    /*
    Welcome to Custom CSS!

    CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) is a kind of code that tells the browser how
    to render a web page. You may delete these comments and get started with
    your customizations.

    By default, your stylesheet will be loaded after the theme stylesheets,
    which means that your rules can take precedence and override the theme CSS
    rules. Just write here what you want to change, you don’t need to copy all
    your theme’s stylesheet content.

    If you need any further help, ask in the CSS Customization forum.
    */

    do I need to keep a part of it, to paste after or something else ?

    Hi,

    Let me try to help also.

    – do I need to copy-paste exactly this text (including the url) ?

    Yes.

    the CSS customization window in WP includes already some text. do I need to keep a part of it, to paste after or something else ?

    Paste the CSS from designsimply below those text. Although technically, you can delete that part and there will be no issue.

    sorry to ask again : is the “h” in #featured-content .hentry needed (the other ones have no h) ?

    Yes.
