    Hi there,

    I see that your site, cable-boss.com, is not a WordPress.com site.

    This support forum is for the users having WordPress.com sites. WordPress is different from WordPress.com. Here is the difference: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/. For any support on self-hosted WordPress site, you can prefer looking at this support page: wordpress.com/support

    Hope this helps!

    @vaidehisingh Again – it is incredibly frustrating having misleading information on this forum, from where are you getting this (incorrect) information? Anybody who clicks in the URL can clearly see the WP Admin Bar, and any hosting checking service can confirm it is a WordPress.com site. A brief check can confirm this – please do not send users to the wrong place for an issue that needs to be resolved here. Once again, your support URL for self-hosted blogs is wrong too.

    1)How can I make the title Location & Contact but in the primary menu, it just says contact? Like this: https://twentyseventeendemo.wordpress.com/contact/

    I see that you have set up a contact page in your primary menu and I can see it here: https://twentyseventeendemo.wordpress.com/contact/

    Is that what you were intending?

    2)Our About us description is pretty long and I wanted to show a short version on the homepage and when they go to our about page in the primary menu, the get to see the detailed description. Is that possible?

    In terms of making a shorter version, I’m not familiar with the specifics of your theme, but you can always use a good old hyperlink and say something like “Read more”, then set it to your “About” page: https://en.support.wordpress.com/links/

    Just a heads up that in terms of pages with long content, you have plenty of options to split it up too: https://en.support.wordpress.com/links/

    3)In the Contact, how can I show the map like in the live demo version?

    Please follow this guide to embed a Google Map: https://en.support.wordpress.com/google-maps/

    Let us know if you have any further issues or questions! :)

    Hi there,

    1)How can I make the title Location & Contact but in the primary menu, it just says contact?

    By using a custom menu. Change the title on the page and update it. If that causes the menu item to also change, go to My Site ->Customize ->Menus ->Primary and click on the contact page item there. Edit the text in the Navigation Label field to what you want it to be – that will not in turn cause the page title to change as well.

    2)Our About us description is pretty long and I wanted to show a short version on the homepage and when they go to our about page in the primary menu, the get to see the detailed description. Is that possible?

    You can do this by adding the More Tag in your page, wherever you want the section showing on the front page to cut off:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/more-tag/

    @torres126

    In terms of making a shorter version, I’m not familiar with the specifics of your theme

    It helps to have a test site where you can test stuff with different themes. That’s something that helps make the difference between “helping out” and “providing great support”.

    but you can always use a good old hyperlink and say something like “Read more”, then set it to your “About” page:

    While I understand the workaround you’re trying to offer here, your instructions are a bit incomplete. I’d make it clearer that you mean creating two separate pages, one with the short version to show on the front page, and one with the complete version that you link to. But this workaround is not necessary, as the more-tag will work in this case.

    Well, yes I accept my mistake here. I checked the user’s website on Whois.com and found following name servers:

    ns41.domaincontrol.com
    ns42.domaincontrol.com

    WordPress.com’s name servers are:

    ns1.wordpress.com
    ns2.wordpress.com
    ns3.wordpress.com

    Therefore, based on this information I gave support which is not right. I did a mistake in a hurry. I accept that I should have done some more checks and should have checked the site on whatmyDNS.net as well. Also, the footer of his site has WordPress.com credit which I missed. I ensure that I’ll be more conscious next time.

    Once again, your support URL for self-hosted blogs is wrong too.

    While giving support, I create some templates. Today, I found a lot of queries for self-hosted WordPress sites so I created a template for it too. But by mistake, I added wrong link i.e. wordpress.com/support instead of https://wordpress.org/support/ for self-hosted WordPress sites and used it everywhere required. I will check all my replies and correct my support answers.

    Thanks for pointing out.

    @vaidehisingh

    Name servers are not the only way to point a domain to WordPress.com, and it should never be the only thing you check. Checking the site itself should be the first thing you do before anything else.

    This site is not only on WordPress.com, but on the Premium Plan as well.

    1)Both of this doesn’t work. They both changed the title in the primary menu.

    2)In my channels page, there are icons which when clicked will redirect to that logos website. I only separated the images using space and when I published it, it looks like this: https://scontent.fmnl17-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.15752-0/p280x280/37003661_2512138662133493_7482980168152121344_n.png?_nc_cat=0&oh=a4b495ee4f631b866262e0b1d43a9789&oe=5BE8F08B
    Is there other way to fix this or an alternative? Btw, all the logo images have the same size.

    3)In my partners section in the homepage, can I add a tag below the description which will lead to my channels page instead of the partners?

    1)Both of this doesn’t work. They both changed the title in the primary menu.

    I don’t understand. Both what? I still see that page titled as only “Contact” on your site, and it shows the same to the menu.

    To have the title show one thing on the page and another thing in the menu requires two separate steps.

    1) Change the title and update the page. This will cause it to change in the menu as well, yes, but we’re only halfway there.

    2) Edit the menu in the Customizer, and set a custom label for that specific menu item. That way you can have the menu display something different than the page itself.

    2)In my channels page…Is there other way to fix this or an alternative? Btw, all the logo images have the same size.

    The spaces you added between the images is causing this.

    I don’t see any way to hide it, but we should be able to use CSS to space your images properly, instead of adding whitespace in the HTML. Please edit your page and remove all the spaces you added between the images.

    After every third image, also add the HTML element for a line break:

    <br />

    Let us know once you’ve done that, and we can take a look and help you with the code needed to make this change, but it’s a bit hard to figure out the code the way that page currently looks.

    3)In my partners section in the homepage, can I add a tag below the description which will lead to my channels page instead of the partners?

    There you can just use a regular link, but it looks like you’ve already added that.

    Thanks! Got all of it. :)

    Just gonna wait for the CSS for the Channels page.

    Perfect. Now add this CSS code at My Site ->Customize ->CSS:

    /*
    Spaces linked images on the Channels page
    */
    #post-22 a {
    	margin-right: 20px;

    }

    You can play around with the value of that margin if you want, but a value between 15 and 20 pixels appear to work best, and displays well on mobile, tablet and desktop views of your site.

    Hi,

    on my site the featured images do not work – partly. I have a header video, which works fine, below that, there is my “home”-page displayed, the image for this one works fine. Below that, there is my post page, the featured image for this one is only grey, as well as for the next page below. I’m not sure if this is a common mistake, but I am new to this theme, so I do not know if I do something wrong.
    Thanks in advance.

    Got it. Thanks!

    Now my problem is the header and featured image.

    1)When I upload files with the correct size (2000×1200), the upper and lower part doesn’t show. I noticed that this only happens in the Home page. Can you give me the specific size that will show the entire image? Like the bleed etc.
    I want to put this as my header:
    https://scontent.fmnl17-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.15752-9/p960x960/37232349_2523288937685132_3325223213104889856_n.jpg?_nc_cat=0&oh=754a046e91f554991bd10a9c278ff4b3&oe=5BD40788
    but this is what happens:
    https://scontent.fmnl17-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.15752-9/37335581_2523291437684882_2611787144754102272_n.png?_nc_cat=0&oh=d1a367c30bd91dbc1014aeed21d7d11c&oe=5BE381B4

    2)Can you also provide the specific size for this?
    https://scontent.fmnl17-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.15752-9/37376997_2523287834351909_4591405376129204224_n.png?_nc_cat=0&oh=3704ed31cac3666e27065ad411a4a1a3&oe=5BC542D4

    2)Also, is there a way to make the image not crop for the tablet and phone version?

    Sorry, it looks like we missed your last reply. Please keep in mind your Premium Plan also gives you access to 24/5 live chat and 24/7 email support.

    1)When I upload files with the correct size (2000×1200), the upper and lower part doesn’t show. I noticed that this only happens in the Home page. Can you give me the specific size that will show the entire image?

    I can’t give you a specific size, because the exact cropping that happens to the image depends on the size of the screen/browser window in which your site is viewed. Most themes center-crop featured images/custom headers depending on screen size, so we don’t recommend using images with details around the borders, as it’s likely to be cut off at some point.

    2)Can you also provide the specific size for this?
    https://scontent.fmnl17-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.15752-9/37376997_2523287834351909_4591405376129204224_n.png?_nc_cat=0&oh=3704ed31cac3666e27065ad411a4a1a3&oe=5BC542D4

    The header image height on single pages is 182pixels.

    2)Also, is there a way to make the image not crop for the tablet and phone version?

    I don’t know of any way to do this, no.

    Hello,

    I have a problem with the header in our home page. Visibility is quite low as the text is white and blends slightly with the graphics in the background. How do I change the color of the font so it will be more visible and by any chance, is it possible to have a shadow behind the text?

    Thanks!

    How do I change the color of the font so it will be more visible and by any chance, is it possible to have a shadow behind the text?

    You can change the color and add a shadow by adding the following CSS to your site’s CSS editor:

    body.has-header-image .site-description, body.has-header-image .site-title a {
    	text-shadow: 2px 3px #558ABB;
    	color: #ff00ff;
    }

    You may use any HTML supported color or hex value you’d like and can modify the text shadow color based on the accepted parameters.
