Twenty Ten Theme
wish I could delete that :(. NM I found the answer. I just had to go to the widgets area and put a check mark against to show the post count. Sometimes the upper area (brain) refuses to work.
Hello there. This is not a theme related issue. Please bookmark this main link to support documentation. http://en.support.wordpress.com This is the link to support the entry on the Archives widget http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/archives-widget/ Note the Show post counts option. Click the widget so it opena. Set it to show post counts. Click “Save” and the click “Close”.
I switched from Misty to Twenty Ten as a theme and two things happened. FIRST, I could not upload a .jpg file for a custom header, the box where the image source is noted converts to a crop-image (dotted lines and box boundary) and no image is presented to crop. My image is sized to 940 x 198 pixels. SECOND, all of the images in past postings over a year or so have disappeared — only text is presented.
The bottom line is that I have a site presentation without a header image and without any of the graphs or diagrams that I have posted over the past year in any posting. Can you suggest a possible solution path? Dave
We cannot help you until you post the complete and clickable URL starting with the prefix http:// for the blog in question. Will you do that now please?
This is the URL to reach my blog site. Thank you. Dave
Thanks for the link. I am using a Firefox 3.6.4 browser and I see a very colorful header image. I can also see other images (diagrams) in posts on your front page. Perhaps you have browser issues. Please log out of wordpress.com and force clear your browsers and cache and cookies and then log-in again.
If that does not rectify your problem you will have to contact Staff http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/
I am using Firefox 3.6.3. I downloaded Firefox again and when I start up it gives me a combined Google-Firefox page for accessing images. I’ve reset using the Tools | Option box to go through my ISP. When I open Firefox, I still get the “text only” version of Twenty Ten with no graphics.
I’ve had a family member open my blog site, ninthhouse, and everything appears quite normal there.
Firefox told me I had a file missing and to download a new version. I could uninstall. And then go to firefox and download and install. Once I download now, nothing additional happens. Will go do that. Dave
Well, that didn’t work. I used the Windows Control Panel to remove Firefox. Then I went to Internet Explorer and searched for Firefox. From that site I downloaded and installed Firefox. Now, I’ve gone to my blog and I still have no graphics. I’m just a bit puzzled at this point.
There has to be something set in I.E. and the earlier FireFox that has been carried over into this version that is messing up the display. Any suggestions? Dave
Your uninstallation of Firefox may not have removed the Firefox profile. A clean and complete uninstallation of Firefox would not carry anything over from anywhere.
Problem Resolved — yeah!!! Under Tools | Page Info | Media tab there is a check box in the lower left that permits one to block WordPress graphics. Why this is a “feature” is beyond me —- as is how it got checked off. The clue to the problem was when I found that I could see everything on Internet Explorer. That indicated that it had to be something specific to FireFox. Then, it was just a matter of exploring every menu, sub menu and tab-page to see what looked out of place. Thanks for everyone’s time. If anyone is interested in a more advanced practice of Astrology and prediction, please visit the “ninthhouse” site. Dave.
Wow! What an experience you have been through. I’m so sorry you experienced this but happy you resolved it and returned to share the cause and the fix. May the rest of your blogging be problem free. :)
Thank you for your timely response:-) However, I don’t think I phrased my question correctly. I had originally asked you if it was possible to upload an image into a posting that could be 900 pixels wide in the Twenty ten theme. Your answer was the maximum width can only be 640. Bummer!
However, I did purchase the CSS upgrade and was wondering if I could now make changes within the CSS to widen my blog columns to allow for a 900 pixel wide (or close to that larger size) rather than an eye-squinting 640 pixels. Any help would be much appreciated! I have scoured the internet and forums here and can’t seem to find exactly what I am looking for.
Getting my twenty ten theme to format images this size is exactly what I am looking for:
I hope this might give you a better idea:-)
@santomarco: The images you upload can be as wide as you like. The versions inserted in your posts are a different story. I can’t answer your CSS question, but I can tell you what can be done with the no-upgrade version of 2010.
You create and upload 900px wide (or wider) images, and click “File URL” or “Post URL” before inserting them. File URL means that clicking the downsized version on the post will link to the fullsize original alone. Post URL means that clicking the downsized version on the post will link to a so-called attachment page with a larger version of the image: in 2010, exactly 900px wide.
What you just linked to is an attachment page.
Yes, with the CSS upgrade you could widen the theme. Right now the wrapper and main are 940px wide (that isn’t the post area) so you would really only want to expand the width to around 1000px (clear area on a maximized browser window on a 1024px wide monitor). You really don’t want to create a situation where your visitors have to scroll horizontally. That is #3 on the top 10 list of things people hate on the web.
So basically you would be widening the images by 60px (700px maximum in the post area. You could play around with margins and padding and probably pic up possibly another 100px which would get you to 800px wide, but that may crowd things and not leave enough white space between elements.
Thank you both for your input. I do now understand that previous large image was an attachment page and wasn’t the same as an actual image embedded in a post.
I am not looking to be able to click the image and send a user to a larger version of the picture as posted URL…..
I have been playing around with the css code to see what line of code changes what. I am slowly starting to get a better idea. I can see how I can change the size of the header wrap (if you look at it now, its all out of sorts, but I am confident I can re-align that).
However, I still cannot get the image to upload correctly without it being distorted. I resized the image in photoshop to 900x 600 and when I add it in the post it still gets reformatted into a smaller size. I have been poking around in the css and cannot find what actually changes the size of the images. I am able to widen the layout of the blog. But pictures still wont change. Any more suggestions?
Thank you all for you help. Look forward to some new advice. Its a great community here.
Go to Appearance > Edit CSS and change the number in the field that says “Limit width to [ ] pixels for videos, full size images, and other shortcodes”.
@santomarco: check this too:
I have finally decided to save myself some time and bookmark your WORDPRESS TIPS onto my ToolBar. I am looking around in it for more Inuit Types tips. Like if I can change the color of the sidebar to other than what is offered, and how.
