It’s ignorant to read the thread that you post in? OK…..

Please note that it’s also discussed up above as the possible reasons why it heasn’t been added yet. (ie security, not enough requests, etc.)

It would only make sense for wordpress to add a widget in the sidebar for twitter to make things easier for its users.

And again you’re assuming that everybody wants this feature.

Best bet would be to use the workaround as described up above and request this feature via feedback.

Dr Mike has several degrees, excellent reading skills, and a notably low level of attitude. Try your best to replicate that when you make your requests, because WordPress does notice.

Read the thread you post in.

I would also love twitter support. I am using the rss thing right now. It works ok, it just isn’t too pretty. It would be great to be able to use the real Twitter badges on my blog. I have it on my myspace and it works pretty well.

Nat, please do what’s suggested and send in a feedback with this suggestion on Monday. Please be sure to include why you would like to see this feature as that gets brownie points.

bafinney, please don’t waste my time as I’m here to try and help those who want our help. You’ve already proven to the rest of us that your ability to read is lacking. You don’t need to prove it anymore.

It’s a shame simply cos the Twitter badge looks pretty. *I am a girl so I have rights to pretty things* haha.

Well, not having twitter doesn’t affect my blog at all. It’s a plus that can be done without. I mean, those who are my twitter friends would have already got my SMS updates.. And those who log on to my blog can easily read from the RSS feed.

Don’t see a strong *need* for this function. It’s a PLUS, not a MUST.

I’d rather be safe than sorry when it comes to techie stuff.

Another vote for a twitter badge! And yes, I have read this whole thread and will send my feedback to WP.
Has there been any progress on this matter that I have missed?
I don’t think twitter is going anywhere soon and is a fantastic way to do a mini-update on your blog while you’re mobile to whet people’s appetite until you can sit down and post properly. Just my ideas!

No progress that I’m aware of has been made. Only staff can provide an update on whether this is under consideration or not.

I don’t see why people really need a Twitter badge? Yes, I use Twitter [on occasion rather excessively], but you don’t need a Twitter badge to have it displayed on your blog as it’s been mentioned several times on this thread.

Simply grab the RSS feed of your Twitter feed, stick it in an RSS widget and stick it on your sidebar:

    1) Go to http://twitter.com/YOUR USERNAME HERE to view your timeline. Alternatively go to http://twitter.com/home if you also want to include your friends tweets.

    2) Scroll down to the bottom and look on the left for ‘RSS’.

    3) Right click it and ‘Copy Link location’ for Firefox or similar ones for Internet Explorer and other browsers.

    4) Go to your Blog > Dashboard > Presentation > Widgets.

    5) Drag a RSS widget from the bottom box to the sidebar.

    6) Paste the link from step 3 in, save the settings and voila.

Yes, it may not look as shiny as a twitter badge, but is it really necessary? Many blogs already have quite a few images and other things in the sidebar that it would just clutter things up even more.

That’s just my opinion though. :)

    That should be FAQ’d.

    Agreed and done :)

carocat – would you like a credit direct to your blog? I’m asking because I don’t want to do it then have people descend on your blog asking for help.

Are you aware of Lorelle’s WordPress Tips celebration? I think you should submit your tip on “twitter” to her http://lorelle.wordpress.com/2007/09/10/weekly-digest-wordpress-tips-guest-bloggers-party-on-and-more-wordpress-and-blogging-fun/

It’s only something I quickly wrote, but thanks for the comments. :)

@ Mark: If people want to ask me for help and it’s actually somthing I can do, like this, they’re more than welcome to, so feel free. :)

@ Timethief: I’ve never looked into it, but I’ll have a gander now. Thanks!

I agree that it doesn’t really matter if my twitter is pretty or not, but I do have a question that I’m directing at you simply because you wrote the nice FAQ :)

Do you have any idea why an RSS widget would fail to reflect updates from Twitter? I added the widget to the sidebar about 5 hours ago and the only thing that is posted is my first “tweet.” The others I made shortly thereafter are not showing up — I even tried pasting the URL for the feed into the widget again, to see if that would force it to show the other items, but it still doesn’t. Any thoughts on the subject would be appreciated.

Perhaps you would like to post this as a comment submitted to carocat’s twitter blog post. If so then it’s located here http://carocat.wordpress.com/2007/09/13/how-to-display-your-twitter-status-on-your-wordpresscom-blog/
