UMG content on youtube videos

  1. I have already seen one forum thread on this issue ( but didn't find the answer I was looking for

A large number of videos won't play on wordpress because they have either UMG content or SONY MUSIC content - at least these are the two I've had problems with. I understand this is some kind of copyright issue, meaning video creators have used music clips they weren't supposed to. However, these videos play just fine on youtube as well as on many other sites i.e. facebook etc. They won't play on

Could someone please explain why this is happening?

The blog I need help with is

  2. If UMG and Sony have staked a claim on video violating their copyright, yet have allowed it to remain on YouTube, they probably disabled embedding.

Can you provide a link to one of the videos in question?

  3. This video contains content from UGM. It is restricted from playback on certain sites. Watch on youtube.

The notice means UGM has requested that youtube disable viewing and that's what's happening.

Why don't you just publish your text in a post and in it tell your readers that viewing must take place on the youtube site and provide the link, rather than posting the videos?

P.S. This is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to youtube and copyright issues. Videos that once could be viewed on my Tumblr blog are now displaying similar messages and must be viewed at the youtube site.

  4. So nothing can be done, right? Thanks for the reply anyway!

  5. Yes, that's correct. UMG has restricted playback to, effectively disabling all embeds.

    You're welcome from me. :)

  7. And if you look at your previous videos embedded in your blog, you'll probably find that videos that were working now are working no longer.

I have seen Sony do this with videos that used music WITH permission. I don't think they're communicating well among themselves.

This is extremely annoying and I wish there was something we could do.
Thank you all for the replies!
By the way, "skoteinosthalamos" and myself are the same person.
    Thanks again.

  9. We figured it out. And yes, it's extremely annoying. The best way to protest is to avoid YouTube and use alternate video platforms like Vimeo. When YouTube loses viewership, they'll care: until then they will not.
