I have suddenly been bombarded with ads. Please, I am a humble gardener and environmentalists and my blog does not need these intrusions. Help.

The blog I need help with is chemfreegarden.wordpress.com.

Exactly where are these ads appearing?

WordPress.com has been running advertising on our free hosted blogs since 2006. Many bloggers do not know this because despite the fact they ticked the box required to get a free blog, they did not read the ToS. Many also do not read the advertising entry in the support documents after registering their username and blog(s). Also note that as the ads do not display to us when we are logged in, and as many use browsers with ad blockers when logged out, they may not realize they are there at all.

The only way to get rid of all advertising on our free hosted WordPress.com blogs is to purchase an annually renewable No-Ads upgrade.

Please disable all browser add-ons and browser extensions and let us know if those “ads” disappear.

The reason I asked you where these ads are appearing is because WordPress.com does not use banner ads, text enhance or text link ads or pop-up ads or links in comments. We have discovered various kinds of adware and malware is embedded in shareware and most but not all is found in browser extensions.

Bloggers have complained here about ads but when they were examined they proved to be the result of a browser add-on. This post contains more details http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2012/09/14/bloggers-beware-of-adware/

Also as I visited your blog I read your post about spam. The vast and overwhelming majority of all so-called information on the internet is spam. Over 80% of all comments submitted to .wordpress.com blogs every day are spam. The worst of all spam containing malware and viruses is not sent to us. It’s removed as it could bring down many blogs if opened.

If Akismet has sequestered spam comments simply click “empty spam” button. If you get spam that slips by Akismet then mark it as spam (do not delete it) and over time Akismet will learn it’s spam. Do not click “delete”. Mark spam as spam and click “empty spam”.

On the spam that Akismet catches it takes only seconds to click “empty spam” and you don’t even have to click “empty spam” if you don’t want to. Akismet will maintain comments it has caught for 15 days from the time they were received, and then it will delete the comment automatically.

For more information please take the time to read “5 things every blogger should know about spam” on this page Akismet: How it works http://akismet.com/how/

Thank-you Time thief. Escort ads are running on the right and banner ads for samsung ect are running at the top. Thats at the moment. I am fairly dumb re the technical side of all this and live remotely therefore assistance is thin on the ground. Also I do not have any of the credit cards to “buy” ad free space. i feel duped.

Escort ads would be against the Advertising Terms of Service – take a screen shot of them and any other information you can find (like name , url the ad links to etc) – put the screen shot in your media library and the other info in a draft post and notify the staff in this thread – the staff have canceled several advertisers that were not running appropriate ads
