Unwanted text line at bottom of header
-
I have been learning WP by creating a web page and have unwittingly added a text line below the header on my pages (both the default and the featured image headers).
I don’t like it and can’t remember how I did it. Can anyone help me delete it?

If I’m reading you right, you want to change the Tagline of your page.
Looks like you should be able to change that here:

Above is a screen capture of the text line I am trying to delete. It isn’t the Tag Line.

I cannot view your screenshot.
Are you referring to:
I plant seeds to help people start things! If yes, then that`s a Tagline and it can be changed or completely removed.
re: changing a site title or tagline
Provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the underlying .wordpress.com URL and purchased the upgrade the Site title (blog name) and/or the optional Tagline can be changed on the top of this page at any time. Dashboard > Settings > General … “save changes”.Go to http://dontcampbell.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-general.php
That is exactly where search engine spiders look for the site title and removing it from there can cause issues with getting your content indexed. Note that the site title (blog name) and blog address URL do not have to be the same but it’s better for SEO (search engine optimization) if they are the same.

I’m sending the screen shot from a Mac so I can’t follow the Microsoft directions.

Hi Don- https://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/#mac
After you make a screenshot, you need to upload the resulting PNG file to your site’s Media Library. From there, you can provide us with the link here in this forum thread. See here https://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/#sharing-your-screenshot

Hi Justjennifer,timethief and writesrealgood,
Sorry to be so slow on the uptake. I stopped using this web site when a friend offered to mentor me and set up space for me at the back of his web site. That’s where I’ve been working. Hopefully we’ve made some progress. I have now added the screen shot to the media library of my original web site start. Hopefully you can see it now.
When looking for how to add text over the header I happened on some way to add a text line beneath the header (as the screen shot shows). I don’t want it now but no longer remember how I created it. I’d be much obliged if you could tell me how tp find where it was added so I can now delete it.
Thanks so much for your time,
Don -
Hi again Don – We cannot see any screenshot because you haven’t provided the link. I’ve also looked at the site linked to your username and don’t see anything published there.
More importantly, if you are now working on a standalone WP site hosted by your friend, then we’re not going to be able to assist you here. These forums provide support for sites hosted on WordPressdotcom. We need to be clear whether you need help for your site here on WordPressdotcom or a site hosted elsewhere using the standalone WP software. The software on each is similar but not the same.

Hi @dtcampbell, let’s not worry about the screenshots for now. Can you confirm you’re working on this site?
https://dontcampbell.wordpress.com/And that you want to remove or change this text?

Thanks for your generous offer.
I found and corrected my problem. It was in Customization/General Options Content & Administration.
