Unwanted Youtube video connected with my site!
A friend of mine sent me an email informing me that when he goes to read my blog there is a Youtube video at the bottom of the page which I did NOT put there!! It’s an advertisement for Levi jeans. He then discovered that WordPress does that to defray costs of offering a free blog site for subscribers. Did it ever occur to you to FIRST CHECK THE CONTENT OF THE BLOG YOU ARE STICKING THE BLASTED VIDEO TO??? Because that particular Levi advertisement does NOT belong to a blog titled Warrior for Christ and I find this offensive! Kindly take it down ASAP!!
The blog I need help with is warrriorforchrist.wordpress.com.
When you signed up for WordPress.com, you agreed to allow WordPress.com to show advertising on your site if you have not purchased the annually renewable No Ads Upgrade. See point 10 in the Terms of Service.
However, WordPress.com has no interest in showing advertising that is not family friendly. If you find what you think is an inappropriate ad on your site, please take a screenshot and upload it to your Media Library and then come back and let Staff know in this thread.
The only way to get rid of all advertising on our free hosted WordPress.com blogs is to purchase an annually renewable No-Ads upgrade.
WordPress.com has been running advertising on our free hosted blogs since 2006. Many bloggers do not know this because despite the fact they ticked the box required to get a free blog, they did not read the ToS. Many also do not read the advertising entry in the support documents after registering their username and blog(s). Also note that as the ads do not display to us when we are logged in, and as many use browsers with ad blockers when logged out, they may not realize they are there at all.
All of WordPress.com ads are family-friendly. If you feel an ad is inappropriate please take a screenshot of it, upload it via Media -> Add New to your Media Library. Then return to this thread to post the file name to let Staff them know it’s there for them to view.
lol :D we were a duet
I cannot see well enough to determine what your gravatar is depicting. Care to share?
I was not complaining about the fact that WordPress stuck a Youtube video on my blog. It was the CONTENT of the video. I received a complaint from another Christian in Florida about the video and that it would be offensive to others. I didn’t particularly like it. BUT I understand the need for WordPress to defray their costs. I am just asking WordPress to match up the video with the content of the blog. Like, for instance, some advertiser that sells orange juice or whatever. I will take a screen shot.
@tt :) When you have time, check my personal site’s about page. (Not gammagirl.)
@warriorforchrist- that would be the best thing to do. Just remember not everyone’s definition of appropriate/inappropriate is the same.
Christians don’t wear jeans?
Please take the screenshot and post it. Volunteer don’t make the call on these ads but I’m here to tell you that I don’t find the Levi’s ad to be offensive at all. If you want the advertising to fit the blog then you have the option of purchasing a domain and applying for WordAds. Though I find it mind blowing that Christians would be eager to make income from ads on a free blog with “Christian” content I have witnessed the fact that many do. This is the homepage for the WordAds program: http://www.wordads.co/ There you will find the application page as well as FAQs.
OMG! Are you kidding? Yes, we wear jeans. But I’m getting complaints via email about the content of the video. Listen…If I was Muslim, you probably would not give me a hard time, notawoodpecker. And yes, Justjennifer, I know everyone’s definition of appropriate is not the same. I’m not an idiot and the fact that I have to defend myself is absolutely ridiculous.
I’m not making any money off of anything, Timethief! I’m just telling everyone in this forum that I am getting complaints from others. Whether you find it not offensive has nothing to do with the emails I am getting!! You randomly pass judgement on me and lump me in with other Christians making money.
Stating that not everyone sees things the same way is not attacking you personally.
Thanks for uploading the screenshot. This thread has been tagged for Staff attention. Please be patient while they get back to you.
You don’t have to defend yourself at all.
1. The fact is that we all entered a contract to get a blog here and the terms of that contract allow for WordPress.com to place advertising on our blogs.
2. You have uploaded your screenshot and Staff will make the call.
3. You have the option of purchasing a No-Ads upgrade and removing all advertising from your blog and that would include ads such as the Christian Science and Scientology ads which are keyword triggered and are found in Christian blogs.
I don’t see anything there other than a .doc attachment.
Did you upload something in an image format?
Okay for the third time….I understand the terms of the contract. I don’t know how to word that sentence so you understand. Lumping me in with others is ridiculous. It would be like me saying something stupid like “all non-Christians worship the devil and sacrifice babies every other Sunday.” I am also very aware of the no-ads upgrade. But you know what…it doesn’t matter what I say. I’m tired of repeating myself.
I block YouTube for security reasons, so I was looking for a static screenshot in .jpg or .png format.
I just can’t imagine an offensive jeans ad. Even the infamous Brooke Shields ad for Calvin Klein was on mainstream primetime TV.
“Nothing come between me and my Calvins”
Lumping me in with others is ridiculous.
Christians are indeed like every other Muslim, Jew or Buddhist, agnostic or atheist on this planet ie. they are human beings with beliefs.
“Belief…is the insistence that the truth is what one would ‘lief’ or (will or) wish to be… Belief is fervent hope, and thus a cover-up for doubt and uncertainty.
Faith is an unreserved opening of the mind to the truth, whatever it may turn out to be. Faith has no preconceptions; it is a plunge into the unknown.
Belief clings, but faith let’s go…faith is the essential virtue of science, and likewise of any religion that is not self-deception. If we cling to belief in God, we cannot likewise have faith, since faith is not clinging but letting go.” http://thistimethisspace.com/2012/09/25/clinging-to-the-rock-or-swimming/
Equally stupid would be:
(1) alleging that Christian are special human beings;
(2) all human beings do not believe what Christians believe are destined to be tossed into imaginary hellfires created by a … wait for it … loving god.
I don’t believe in the statements under your “Equally stupid would be:” paragraph, Timethief. I totally do not support those beliefs even though others do. You don’t know me at all.
