A notification to update my web browser remains at the top of my notifications even though I don’t need to update my IE. It looks like a browser hijacker from within WP and not on my computer. M avs and malware software don’t find anything on my computer.

And I can’t find any link to a reader that works on the wordpress.com homepage.

The blog I need help with is humbledpie.wordpress.com.

Are you using IE9 in compatibility mode? One of the drawbacks of using compatibility mode is that IE 9 will report itself as IE 7 and IE7 is no longer supported http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2011/05/19/just-write/ There’s a “dismiss” link at the bottom of the notice to remove it.

And I can’t find any link to a reader that works on the wordpress.com homepage.

These are the troubleshooting steps we take whenever any issues like this arise:
clearing your browser cache and cookies > http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
using the browser with all extensions or add-ons disabled
updating the browser to the latest stable version (not a buggy BETA browser version) http://browsehappy.com/
confirming third party cookies is enabled http://support.google.com/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=61416
    confirming JavaScript is enabled http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654
confirming Flash is updated http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ and if required installing the latest version of Flash http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/
resetting your router and modem and rebooting your computer
then logging in using the secure https:// log-in see http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
    trying another browser

I’ve been on IE9 all along with no problems. What has changed? Not my settings. Why should I have to change my security settings for your website only? What is different? And better yet, why would you not have notified the many users of IE if your security certificates or anything else would change and affect their access to avoid days of frustration?

This is a peer support forum and I am a Volunteer, who has been here for over 6 years. There has never been a time when WordPress.com made announcements like the one you expected. I have flagged these threads for Staff attention and can do no moere than that. Are you running IE9 in compatilibilty mode?

It has nothing to do with security. Microsoft has decided that IE 9 will report itself as IE 7 when run in compatibility mode, probably because IE 9 renders everything as IE 7 would when run in compatibility mode.

Since your browser is reporting itself as IE 7, because you’re running IE 9 in compatibility mode, all we know is that you’re using IE 7. Since that’s two versions behind, we of course ask you to update.
