Upgrating to premium and change blog's name

  1. ameliemarieintokyo

    Dear support staff and readers,

I have searched around the forum and internet, but I couldn't find the answer to my questions.

I apologizes in advance for my lack of knowledge and English mistakes.

I have a free blog on

Here's the thing: I would like to go premium (easier for me, I really do not understand self hosting), with a new name for my blog.

I would like my blog "" to become "" (for example) because of a proximity between my blog's name and a French travel company.

My question is: if I go premium, get a domain with a new name for my blog, would I lose traffic and SEO ? Not that my ranking is so great, but I spent a few month on this blog, and I would hate to go back to start again.

Would I need to buy some kind of redirect service before ?

Thank you very much in advance for your patience and your time.

The blog I need help with is

  2. Your content stays exactly where it is. All that changes is the URLs and your visitors are seamlessly redirected from the original URLs to the same content under the new domain URLs.

It will take some time for the search engines to re-idndex your content and when that's done, all other things remaining equal the site will have the same search ranking it had previously. read more here

    Important Notes Before Upgrading
    All About Domains

In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying subdomain blog to map from and the domain name you desire must be available for purchase, or you must already own the domain URL.

You must be logged in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog to access the blog's dashboard at > Store > My Upgrades to purchase a domain name by purchasing an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog. See here if you do not own a domain

After you do the primary blog set up it can take between 24 - 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > What's important during that stage is to be patient.

Thank you very much for such an accurate and detailed answer.

I will try to understand all the information you gave me before doing anything, but so far, so good.

If I understand correctly, basically patience is the key and everything will be normal under the new name.

You lost me at DNS, but I don't think that the most important part to understand at my level.

Really, thanks again for your time and answer !

  4. You`re welcome.
