Uploading Files – Link to domain name
Links to OLD uploaded files naturally remain x.wordpress.com. Are you noticing this on new uploads as well?
Thanks for the quick response. Yes, new uploads still remain at x.wordpress.com/x.
Apologies for the appalling grammar; to be clear, new uploads are treated the same as old uploads – links point to x.wordpress.com/x.
Can you give a specific example? Post URL, plus the upload URL?
I have this issue also when I upload photographs. And then when you use the editor to insert the code into the post, it locates the image page as being from the domain, but the image itself being from the wordpress location. An example is this page…
It’s not the end of the world, but if I ever wanted to leave wordpress and go self-hosted wordpress, it would be an inconvenience to have to go through and make the necessary changes.
This problem bit me hard.
When I insert image URLs into my posts, I always remove the domain, leaving only the relative path (habit from web coding work and the old bug of self-pinging URLs). Since I started a custom domain, all my old files are broken, because instead of pointing to xx.files.wordpress.com/2007/, they point to xx.com/2007/.
This is pretty bad practice having files at a TLD. They should be at xx.wordpress.com/files/ to maintain site integrity.
Bump…is there any way to fix this issue so older image links work properly?
