I'm uploading photos to WP for the first time. The process seems intuitive enough. But what are the implications of selecting "thumbnail" or "full size"? (It would seem that, once published, either the thumb nail or the full-sized photo would display but neither is happening.) And what are the implications of selecting linking to the file (what file?) or the page or nothing? (I've selected both file and page and in both instances, the photo doesn't display until clicked and that opens a new window: not good.) And what are the size limitations of image files, both individually and collectively? Many thanks ~

Hi there ... you just posted 3 separate threads and I'm wondering if you read the pink sticky posts at the head of the forum. Here's one of them in relation to problems with inability to post images tonight http://wordpress.com/forums/topic.php?id=5183&replies=3
(2) here's the link to the FAQs blog search box http://faq.wordpress.com/ there's lots of posts on images in it
(3) this is about image sizes
this is about linking images http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/07/16/how-do-i-link-to-other-pictures/
(4) the forum search box is also useful http://wordpress.com/forums/search.php?q=image+link+to+external+page
People with dial-up will like you better if you use thumbnails.
Timethief ~ I did read the sticky post, found no answers. I posted three threads as they were on unrelated topics. I did use the search function and found no posts answering my questions. And in addition .. .

Nosysnoop ~ thanks, it's easy to forget about dial ...
The pink sticky post from Barry at the head of the forum said there was maintenance going on and during that time no photos could be uploaded, headers couldn't be uploaded and avatars couldn't be uploaded. Regardless you were trying to upload pictures so this is why I directed you to it.
(1) I'm still unable to load photos.
The instructions for uploading are here http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/07/16/how-do-i-upload-pictures/ If you use them and still cannot upload then follow these instructions http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/29/i-cannot-upload-images/
If you still cannot upload then contact staff by use of the feedback button on the top right hand corner of any blog page. And be sure to include the link back to this post in your feedback message.
(2) How big can my images be? does not answer my question. http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/09/25/how-big-can-my-images-be/
These are pretty close to the maximum size you can have an image in a post without it breaking your layout. Firefox will try and resize image to fit. Internet Explorer does not bother and a large picture will usually send your sidebar to the bottom of the blog.
It's recommended that you get a free 3rd party account with photobucket, flickr etc. as they offer storage for your originals. You then place thumbnail images in your blog and link them to the originals. Your readers then can choose whether or not to click the thumbnails and see the full size photo. This as nosy mentions will shorten the page loading time as is especially beneficial to readers on dial-up service.
(3) How do I link to others' pictures? does not answer my question since I'm uploading my own photos.
Okay. See 2 above and for now disregard it and use it in the future if and when you need to.
