uploading mp3 to a wordpress blog

  1. Hello,
I'm having a lot of trouble figuring out how to upload some mp3's to my blog. The mp3's in question are quite big (around 150mb) and wordpress won't allow me to upload them without a space upgrade, which I assume costs money. I did some searching and people were saying that odeo was the only way to upload mp3 but when I went to odeo's site and registered they don't let you upload mp3's and there's no explanation of how it works anyway. I've also looked at a few other places to upload my mp3 and then embed a link in my blog but most don't have the size limits I need. I tried internet archives but it kept timing out and now it won't let me log in.

Any suggestions? I really want to find a way to add these mp3's to my blog.

The blog I need help with is

  2. Please paste the URL of your blog when asking questions here, or link your username to your blog (as explained in the Sticky 8 Things to Know Before Posting). We can't help without that.

  3. If your are referring to a blog then "yes" with the purchase of the space upgrade you are permitted to upload mp3's. There is an embedded audio player built in to that will work with .mp3 files.

  4. Thanks I wanted to be sure that it was a blog that you were referring to. I have posted the relevant links above for you.

  5. @flyerec: As far as I know, no file hosting sites allow both uploading files that large and hotlinking for free. Your best option is probably Fileden (up to 50mb per file). But why on earth are your mp3s so large?

  6. @panaghiotisadam Well internet archive supposedly does. The files are segments for my podcast that didn't make the show so they are quite large.

  7. Huh internet archive worked for some reason. That's surprising. Ok so the file is now hosted. But when I try copying the code to embed it won't work...

So I'm supposed to switch to html on the blog, put [audio (code here) ] correct?

  8. Interesting - thanks for sharing!

"So I'm supposed to switch to html on the blog, put [audio (code here) ] correct?"

I'm not sure what you mean by "code": has to be the URL of the mp3 (from "http" to "mp3").

But the mp3 on that page is just 17MB large, so I don't see what we were talking about all this time.

  9. it must be compressed or something.

So it should look like this [audio ?

However when I put that in it says file not found when I try to play the mp3 on the blog.

  10. It says file not found because there's no such URL. (without the mp3 part, which you added yourself) is the URL of the page. You click where it says "17MB" below "VBR MP3" to access the file itself, and copy the URL that will have shown up in your browser window while the mp3 plays, i.e. this:

As for compression, mp3s are highly compressed by definition. Remember I was surprised to hear of a 150MB mp3? You were probably referring to a wav or other audio file, not an mp3.

  11. Ah yes, I forgot I had converted it to .wav and those are bigger.

But yes it works now, thanks a bunch!

  12. Internet Archive is iffy and generally shouldn't be used to host your files. It's supposed to archive things, not work as free hosting, and they DO go through the files they host and delete any they feel are not appropriate. They've deleted some of mine. Also, everything uploaded to the Internet Archive MUST be available freely for public use, in other words, you are donating the copyright, now and forever.

  13. @raincoaster what hosting site would you recommend?

  14. I use Odeo, because if you signed up prior to a certain point they do allow you to upload. But I've heard Fileden and are good as well. We used to be able to use Google as well, but I'm not sure that works anymore.
