uploading mpg files

    hey all–
is it really not possible to upload short mpg video files to a wordpress blog without purchasing something? when i go to upload video, it says
Add media files from your computer

Allowed file types: jpg, jpeg, png, gif, pdf, doc, ppt, odt.

um…are any of those video files?

    just wondering what to do….

No, none of those are video files. You cannot upload video without the space upgrade.

And please provide a link to your wordpress.COM blog when asking questions. It makes it possible for volunteers in the forums to know that you are in the right forum. Better would be linking your user name to your blog as explained in the sticky, 8 Things, at the top of the forums.

    okay–i should be linked now.

i came to wordpress especially for the security, but i didn’t know that i couldn’t upload video without a space upgrade. it would have been helpful to know that before i transferred here, and there’s really no easy place to find it on the site. i looked all over before i posted here…

i understand it’s a free service and i don’t mind paying for an upgrade, but it would be helpful to have that information easily available.

    thanks for your help!

Unless your blog visibility is set to private, your videos are as safe here as they are on Vimeo or Flickr, which you can embed in your WP.COM blog posts without paying for the upgrade.

there’s really no easy place to find it on the site.

It’s always been in the FAQ.

Yes, but it really isn’t clear if you read the Features page *before* you sign up. Why bother with the upgrade if you can upload to those other free services and then embed?
