Why can’t I upload a video? It either times out, or I get an IO Error message.
This has got to stop.
The blog I need help with is themondayprayer.com.
If you are referring to youtubes then you are probably not taking note of this http://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/youtube/#troubleshooting
These are the video embeds that WordPress.com supports for all of our blogs – no upgrade required. http://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/
See here for the videopress upgrade which allows you to upload videos from your computer for hosting and playback directly within your blog.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/videopress/ But note that if you upload your own videos to youtube or fileden, etc. that you don’t need to purchase the upgrade.
Flash embeds are not allowed, with the exception of some specific shortcodes. See: http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/
For a Flash workaround see here > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/07/22/gigya-shortcode-3-widgets/
Nice try, experts.
I bought your Video Press upgrade and the SAME THING keeps happening. What next? Is it possible to upload videos from my own computer, or must I buy still another upgrade and wait for hours for tech support?
Do you have the Space Upgrade? As far as I’m aware, you can’t upload videos without it.
If you’re not employed by wordpress, then stay out of this. I have 80% capacity on my package.
I want some FREAKIN ACTION tech support!!!!
This is a peer support forum. What a shameful thing to say to a Volunteer who has helped thousands over the course of 7 years. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/wordpresscom-forums-code-of-conduct?replies=1
We will be happy to let you wait forever for assistance. Bye now.
Although I would suggest praying for patience and an even temper next time.
I was looking for help. I am getting opinions. And BTW none of your opinions have worked yet.
I mean no offense, but I have a deadline. Is there such a thing as tech support for wordpress?
I’m paying for this service, not praying for it.
Yes, it comes primarily from volunteers in the forum. TT and I have both been answering questions here for seven years. If you would like to wait until business hours tomorrow, support is open for those with paid upgrades via the live chat option on their Help screen.
If you do not wish people to take offense, try being less offensive.
1) how large is the video file?
2) what format is it?
3) have you successfully uploaded videos before on this blog?
Okay, never mind. I’m out for good this time.
Shame Shame prayer guy – bad attitude – bad Karma
Look, I didn’t know this board was manned by volunteers. I seriously don’t understand why anyone would do this for free, but I do understand grace.
I have given offense, and I am sorry. I apologize to all who read this.
I thought I was communicating with WordPress Tech support. Apparently I have overestimated their reach in customer service. Again, I am paying for something here, and I’m not seeing results I really needed four hours ago.
Please forgive me for my impatience. I wish you all the best.
1. The file is <1MB.
2. mpeg format.
3. I tried once before, bought upgrades and the same thing happened.
If that doesn’t nail it. then there is further troubleshooting you can take on.
If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
Note: If you are using an IE9 browser in compatibility mode that makes it render as IE7 and IE7 is not supported. To disable see > http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html
If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com please do these four things:
1. Try clearing your browser’s cache:
2. Make sure that you have third-party cookies enabled: http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
3. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.
4. Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
If it’s still happening, let us know exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://www.whatbrowser.org/ and also post any error reports you get.
Just to close the loop here:
First, thank you Timethief and Raincoaster. I do appreciate your help, even more so because you volunteer it.
Second, in case in my haste I was unclear, my computer was fully up to date (IE, Flash etc.) and I had already done the suggested steps in the FAQ. The video file just wasn’t uploading. This had happened once before, and that was a big part of my frustration. (plus deadline…tick, tick…)
Third, eventually I left everything alone until morning. Then for no reason I could detect, the file uploaded smoothly. I hadn’t done anything different. I don’t know if we’re dealing with a chronic system anomaly, or perhaps a system load related to time of day. But I do know that’s the second time in two attempts I’ve had extended trouble uploading a video file. The first time I gave up. The second time it worked fine in the morning.
Fourth, I do know my patience system had reached its buffer limit through no fault of yours, and I wish to apologize again. Thank you for the work you do, and for your grace on all counts. God bless you both.
