Urgent Help Needed

    Hello,

I just changed the theme for my site to HERO and after spending a lot of time trying to find a solution to the below problems, I give up and need the powers that be to help me out.

    1. My slider is not showing at all.

    2. When I click the home button, it shows all the posts from September. Instead I want the “News” section to come up.

    3. Also for the posts on the home page, I don’t want the entire article to appear at front. Instead I want the photo and maybe a summary. I tried changing it from the Reading section but it doesn’t seem to be working.

    4. I want the post title colour to change from white to red.

    3. When I put the mouse on the post titles, instead of white to red (as it is now), I want it to be red to white.

    5. The tags/categories under the post titles are in dark grey. I want those to be changed either in white or red

    6. The Main Menu bar on top, I want to create a red highlight border on it. How do I create that?

    7. The I want to change the Menu font to be a bit bigger.

    8. I want the Main Menu font colour changed to white and when I put my cursor on it, I want the colour to be black.

The blog I need help with is sszeemedia.com.

    1. My slider is not showing at all.

Consult the relevant detailed theme description page and make sure you use the instructions provided there at https://wordpress.com/themes/hero/

    2. When I click the home button, it shows all the posts from September. Instead I want the “News” section to come up.

That means you have not set up a static front page as the theme description page states you must do.

You have two choices on any blog
    (1) All posts on the front page.
    (2) A static front page and posts on a different page.

By default the front page of your blog displays all published posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. That is for the convenience of your returning visitors who will not be happy to have to click through an About page every time they visit your blog as they come to read your most recently published content. Creating that situation can make some visitors annoyed – so annoyed that they stop following your blog.

However, if you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page called for example “Welcome” or anything else you prefer for your site and a “Blog” page for all published posts (not pages) to display on in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top.

To do that create two pages first http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/

After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change for each of the two page and click “save changes”.
    A static page (select below)
    Front page:
    Posts page:

The guide for creating a static front page is here http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/

I have not forgotten you. I will return.

Although you can set your RSS Feed to summary, that setting here > Settings > Reading is only for the RSS Feed summary and does not affect the post display on the front page or main page for posts on your blog.

When it comes to inserting “the more tag” AKA “the read more tag” into posts to shorten front page display be splitting text there is no universal setting for the whole blog. This is done post by post.

If you want to display only excerpts on the front page of the blog followed by read more links, you can insert “the more tag” into each post prior to publication.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/

The read more tag can be inserted once only into any post to change the front page or main page for posts display from full post to an excerpt. The split in the text does not display to you in preview mode but it will be there after the post is published.

Alternatively, you can switch to using a theme that automatically displays front page excerpts. This is a list of only SOME active themes on WordPress.com that use the excerpt instead of full post content. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/theme-with-automatic-excerpts?replies=13#post-1396410

Every one of those requires CSS editing and this is not the CSS Forum.

See here for details on purchasing the annually renewable Premium bundle http://store.wordpress.com/plans/premium/ and here for the Business upgrade http://store.wordpress.com/plans/premium/ that contain a custom design upgrade required for CSS editing:
