username - who owns mine?

  1. I tried to use WP to be able to leave a comment on a website that lists WP as a website ( to use to make comments. It asked for my WP username, I gave it and got this message: You do not own that identity.
Well - if I don't own it who does? I used it today to sign into WP.

  2. is not a WordPress.COM site. It's a WordPress.ORG site and you need to register at that site itself for a username. It won't recognize your username.

  3. We do not provide support for any sites like that are not hosted by WordPress.COM. You are posting to the wrong support forum and we cannot help you. and are completely separate and different

If you don't have a username account at WordPress.ORG click and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.

  4. I am now registered with Now I am registered and signed in with, and dallasnews. I still get this message when I try to comment on a dallasnews article using wp (which is listed as an option for leaving comments):
"You do not own that identity."
    The message is coming from
    Really getting confused.

  5. and are completely separate and have different logins

Log out of WordPress.COM and clear your browser cache and cookies. Then log in under your WordPress.ORG username login.

  6. Dallas News does not accept a WordPress anything ID - only - Facebook, Linked in, Twitter, Google+, Microsoft & yahoo

I also doubt that anybody would use a WordPress.ORG ID for leaving comments

  7. @auxclass
    Great research. Thanks for that.

  8. You be welcome - I have ran into the ID thing a several times in the past where they required ID I don't have

  9. Logged out of WordPress.COM and cleared your browser cache and cookies and tried dallasnews again, got this message:
    "You need to sign in
You need to sign in to to complete this process.
You should use a bookmark or type in the address to do this. This page does not contain any links, to protect you from phishing."
I signed into .com and got this message:
"You do not own that identity."
I think dallasnews has a problem and that auxclass is right. Thanks to all of you for your help. I have given up on dallasnews!

  10. They do have a letter to the editor you can use to complain about their policy - or most sites have a website problems form

  11. FWIW, signing in to to leave a comment is one of the options available on that site (use the + sign), but the party to contact is of course dallasnews, not WPcom.
