I have read the FAQs on ‘Users’ and just need some clarification.
I would like to have others contribute to the site, but ONLY to the blog section, or in my case the ‘News’ page!
I want them to be able to post, edit posts and comments, delete posts and comments, but nothing else. I do not want them to be able to ulpoad files or fiddle with any of the pages.
Which of the user options should I be granting them?
Many thanks for your help.
Not really a level for that since they can upload files if they can write a Post.
OK. Please could you tell me what a ‘Contributor’ is able to do? I do not understand the FAQ description – ‘They can edit their posts but cannot publish’? Publish what exactly?
Contributors can submit a Post and it would show up as a draft along the top of the Manage Posts page. Someone with the Publish ability would have to actually publish it or sent it over to the public side of the blog.
Ahhh, I see. Thanks for clarifying that for me.
So basically, if you want to give someone the ability to post then the lowest user account available is ‘Author’, which also allows them to upload files.
A contributor can create posts, but not actually send them live to the blog, that has to be done by someone with publishing rights i.e. Author or higher.
Thought I would just re-iterate for anyone else that may come across this thread in the future.
That sounds right.
There is a roll manager plugin which is available for those WordPress blogs using the downloadable version of the software from wordpress.org. I’ve not used it (and I believe that there are issues with it for 2.0.4 from what I’ve read in the support forums over there) but that may be more of interest of you. It is not currently available on wp.com though.
