using Google MX on an already-verified domain

  • I recently moved this blog from Blogger to WordPress.COM. (http://sheepthrillsfarm.wordpress.com) I previously had a domain mapped to the Blogger address, and MX was previously handled by Google Apps. I’ve enabled custom domains and completed the nameserver configuration. I already use Google Apps for email, so I don’t know what to enter when I’m prompted for a domain verification code after clicking “Enable Google MX” in the WordPress domain settings. My domain is already verified! Google Apps doesn’t seem to be able to regenerate that verification code without me having to delete/recreate the domain account there, something I am not willing to do.

Can you please help me figure out what to do with this verification code box? Thank you!

  • Sorry, timethief, those don’t help – they assume you have NOT previously verified your domain with Google Apps and so would need to enter a generated validation code to verify them.

  • Here is the solution I used: I clicked the “verification code” link on the WordPress domain settings page (under “Disable Google MX”). This led me to a Google Apps page for my domain where the verification code was printed – EVEN THOUGH I had already verified this domain and from the Google side didn’t need to do this step. This code worked in the WordPress domain page’s field, so all is now well.

  • I’m sorry. I thought that was covered in that entry. :(

    3. Enter your domain name that you already own and have mapped to your WordPress.com blog in Step 2 of the Google registration process.

  • That’s great news. Thanks for posting it so others get the benefit of searching and finding the solution in this thread. :)

  • Yes, the basic idea is that you need to convince wordpress.com to update it’s MX records so that whenever an email comes to that domain, it gets forwarded to Google’s servers. Good job on making it work though.

  • OK – this is all fine except that my mapped domain doesn’t give me the option of adding Google MX — and now email to my google registered domain name is failing because it is going to wordpress… help!

  • I have a related issue regarding having a Worpress blog on a subdomain of my own (through 1and1 hosting). I have setup a YouTube channel and I am able to link fron the channel to my blog, BUT, Google wants me to provide a URL API even after I provide my API? I’ve tried attaching the API key to the end of the URL without success, so I guess I Have no other ideas. I want to link the blog through my YouTube channel though.
