Videopress but no video only audio for podcast

I’ve started a video podcast and the first episode last week went perfectly.
This week I recorded and followed all of the same steps to upload the video, but I’m only getting the sound, not the picture. I deleted it and uploaded it again but I’m having the same problem. I can see the video file on my computer just fine so I don’t think that’s it. I’m trying to upload to Youtube right now just so I can have my episode, but I paid for VideoPress so I’d rather be able to use that. Anyone have any ideas?
The video in question is River’s Knitting Chronicles Episode Two

The blog I need help with is

I’ve tagged this for Staff assistance.

In what format did you upload the video? How big was the upload? Did you encounter any problems while uploading?

It’s a WMV file. On my computer it says its 847 MB, but it only took up about 500 MB of my storage space when I uploaded, so that seems like part of the problem? No, there were no problems uploading either time, I just can’t get it to play and show the video. I had a friend try to play it and she was getting still images that changed every 30 seconds or so while the audio played.

I did manage to upload it to Youtube and it’s working fine that way so I now have a working video on my blog, but I would like to get it to work with Videopress if possible, since I would like to get on iTunes and I don’t think I can do that with the videos on Youtube.

OK, thanks for the additional information.

    @riversknittingchronicles – Hello!

I downloaded your video file and there seems to be a glitch right when the video begins that doesn’t exist on the YouTube version.

I know you’ve tried twice to upload it, but can you try a third time – by uploading the video directly to your Media Library rather than through the post editor – and let me know if you still have the issue? Leave the existing video in your library for now as if the upload fails the third time, I would like to compare the two videos to see if the glitch happens in the same place.

Let me know if you have any questions!

OK, I uploaded again and got the same thing. I didn’t try to post it, but when I try to set the thumbnail I see a picture from the video until I start it playing and then it’s just blank but with audio.
It’s in my library and called Video 2, and the short link is:

    Thanks for the help :-)

Thank you for uploading the file again – that helped a lot!

I show the video file having the same glitch in the exact same spot in the beginning of the video. This gives me enough information to have one of our developers take a look to see what might be causing this problem.

I’ll get back to you once I have more information.

In the meantime, let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

    I have a quick update!

Can you re-export your video file to be encoded as an MP4 file with h.264/aac, then try uploading it again? I discovered that .wmv files can sometimes have conflicts that are difficult to troubleshoot since the codec is not open to developers. The h.264 codec is a more commonly used video encoding format that is more widely supported.

Let me know if you still have trouble or have any questions.

Um… I don’t know, but I can try to figure it out :-)

OK, it’s done. I thought it had fixed itself by doing that, but I replaced the old one with the MP4 one and it’s still white when I try to make a thumbnail and when I go to the blog itself.

What is interesting though is that on the edit page, it is playing in the top viewing box, just no where else :-(.

Here is a link to the blog page: Episode Two
    and the short link:

Ok, it seems the shortcode isn’t working, but if you paste in the full URL of the video file without the shortcode, it does work. You can see what I did in the Draft post titled “Episode Two – Where It All Started”. Here’s where you can find the full URL of the video from the Media -> Library -> Edit Media screen:

So going forward, if you export to .mp4 rather than .wmv, you should not have any trouble.

I will look into the shortcode posting issue and let you know once I have more information.

Let me know if you have any questions!
