Videopress – HAve to allow DOWNLOADS in order to enable embed!?

Ive purchased the Videopress upgrade as a solution to post video on my self hosted site.
I have no trouble uploading a video at and posting it on my self hosted site.

The problem is this, and it’s no small problem.

There seems to be no way to enable embedding without ALSO enabling DOWNLOADS.
And I mean, full out download of quicktime files onto your hard drive.

Allowing anybody to download my videos is 100% not OK. I know of no other streaming video solution that actually allows downloads. if there WAS such a feature there would certainly be the ability to restrict downloads and still enable embeds you would think , right?

No – This doesn’t seem possible on Videopress. I either allow anybody to download my video onto their hard drive or I lose the ability to enable embedding.

OK, so I’m thinking I can go into the Videopress code and change something to create some duct tape workaround. I don’t see a way.

Now understand, I want to enable embedding.
I just don’t want to also enable DOWNLOADING.

Please tell me that there is at least a work-around to this rather frustrating limitation.
While you’re at it you might help me speculate as-to why Videopress would not see this imediately as a mistake and update the player.

This issue is holding up the launch of my site. Your help is greatly appreciated.

The blog I need help with is

In your Dashboard at ‘Settings’ -> ‘Media’, you can find the option to: “Restrict embed playback” and you can specify to allow embeds on specific websites.

I appreciate your reply, and Ive seen this info elsewhere but it does not address the problem.

I want to allow people to embed my video. I don’t want to restrict embeds.

The issue is this specifically- I cannot enable embeds without ALSO enabling DOWNLOADS>

By downloads I mean, You click “download and you get to keep my video file on your hard drive and own it. In Videopress, if I enable embeds it enables downloads.

I see now way of enabling embeds but NOT enabling downloads.

I’m sorry I cannot help with this. It sound to me like you will have to contact Staff. After using the searchbox at the bottom there will be a section that says “Have you found the answer to your question?” You can choose either “Yes I found the answer to my question.” or “No I didn’t find the answer to my question and I would like to contact support for help.” The no option will reveal the contact form.
