Videopress problem

  • I am having trouble with displaying video on my blog site. I have a Videopress subscription, and the files played OK for a time, but now they will no longer play. When I first add them to a page I can go to the page and they play OK, but when I close the browser and go back to the page they no longer play. I have check with other browsers, on other machines, and on other networks and they don’t play on any of them. I contacted customer support and they have not been able to help me. This is my company website, and I really need a solution. Thank you for your help.
Here is a link to a page with a video on it.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • I contacted customer support and they have not been able to help me.

This forum is “manned” by Volunteers and we cannot help with issues like this one. Staff monitor threads from time to time and it sounds as if you have already already contacted them. please be patient while waiting for them to get back to you.

  • I don’t see anything particularly wrong with your video on that page.

    Which browser are you using?

  • I am using chrome and IE8. I have the same problem with both.

  • The video that I see on that page is only 14 seconds long. Is that correct?

  • That is correct. i am glad that you are able to see it. Only the people at WordPress Support have been able to see the videos. None of the other people I have asked can see them. Here is a link to the page with the other video which is longer, and the one i am more concerned about.

  • Hm, I’m also having no trouble with that one. It appears to be a 1:58 video, correct?

I even logged out of WordPress.com and checked from a different computer, no trouble there as well.

Regarding the folks who can’t see it, are they running the latest version of Flash?

  • That is correct. I know I just updated flash, and my designer keeps up to date. Thank you for your help. I am glad someone can see them. Are you just a member of wordpress or are you part of the staff? The reason I ask is that the support person I was dealing with could also see the videos, which made me think that they were veiwable only on the wordpress network.

  • I’m part of the staff here, but when I log out of WordPress.com as I did (especially when I check from another computer), I’m treated no different than anyone else.

So, this issue affects you too, right? When you click the video, it doesn’t play?

  • That is correct. When I first load the video I can go to the page and view it fine. Then if I close the browser and reopen the page it no longer plays. I cleared the cache and it still doesn’t play. I just had my wife check, who is at work and on a different network, etc., and they do not work for her. I don’t think anyone can see these videos besides people that work at wordpress. I am not savvy enough to know why that would be though.

  • That’s just odd. :(

I just checked on a third computer, also logged out from WordPress.com, no trouble there.

I had a colleague check, no problems there either.

Even though we work “at WordPress,” we all work from home (or coffee shops, planes, trains, book stores, anything with wifi), so it’s not a network thing.

Would any of our kind volunteer here, like @timethief, mind checking?

  • Yes, I am at a loss to explain it as well. Thank you very much for all your help thus far.

  • @macmanxx & exhibitwise
FWIW whether or not I’m logged in or out using both Firefox 3.6.17 and using IE8 I can view the video linked to above.

  • @timethief, thanks for checking on that!

@exhibitwise, We just recently noticed and corrected an error in our Dallas datacenter, which would have only affect a small amount of users. I’m hopeful that may have been the cause.

    Are you still having trouble?

  • I wish that I could report that fixed it, but alas, it didn’t. @timethief thanks for checking, I appreciate your help. It does seem that at least some people can see the vids, so that is positive.

  • You’re welcome. This may not be relevant but FWIW I’m in Canada.

  • Would you mind polling to folks that you know are having trouble, including yourself?

If you can, get browser and version, OS and version, Flash version, and ISP, and see if there are any similarities in the list.

    Thanks!

  • Will do and I will get back to you.

  • I am still polling people with problems viewing the videos. Here is some new information that I didn’t think was relevant at first, but now I do. I also cannot get to my dashboard in Chrome. When I came into work this morning and logged on to the network here the video played, but when I closed the browser and opened it back up, not only will the video not play, but I cannot access my dashboard. When I try to get to the dashboard in IE8 I get the following error message:

This content cannot be displayed in a frame

To help protect the security of information you enter into this website, the publisher of this content does not allow it to be displayed in a frame.

    What you can try:
Open this content in a new window

“Open this content in a new window” is a link, and when I click on it it takes me to the dashboard. Is there some kind of setting to allow viewing content in a frame? I think this may be what is happening with the videos as well, but they do not generate an error message.

  • I have same problem with admin panel and I get same error. But for now I didn’t heard that people can’t see videos. Hope someone will provide us solution. Also i contacted support two days ago and still no answer.
