Visitor clicked on link that I didn't link to
I checked my stats just now and there was a click going to a link that I didn’t post on my blog. How did they click a link I didn’t link to and have it show up in my stats? This is a new one on me. I even checked the spam folder to see if one of them had posted the link and then therefore been able to click on it, but it wasn’t there. The thing is, it was a link that is relative to my blog subject and it went to an IMDb page, just not one I’ve ever visited or linked to. Pretty weird.
The blog I need help with is initforthekills.com.
Though I don’t know for sure, my guess is that It’s an advertising video. WordPress.com has been running advertising on our free hosted blogs since 2006. Many bloggers do not know this because despite the fact they ticked the box required to get a free blog, they did not read the ToS. Many also do not read features page, or advertising entry in the support documents after registering their username and blog(s). Also note that as the ads do not display to us when we are logged in, and as many use browsers with ad blockers when logged out, they may not realize they are there at all. The only way to get rid of all advertising on our free hosted WordPress.com blogs is to purchase an annually renewable No-Ads upgrade.
Staff have said if we feel an ad is inappropriate please take a screenshot of it and send it to them by emailing email@example.com or upload it into our Media Library and then contact Staff and let them know it’s there for them to view.
Well, that makes sense. I forgot that other people might see ads. Thank you for explaining.
