I use polling to allow readers to rate live music artists on my blog. In the past 24 – 48 hours one artist, whose page has been on the site for 7 months with roughly 42 total votes, has shot up to over 1000 votes with 1300 page views in the same time period. Additionally, all the votes appear to be the same ‘star’ level as the rating is solidly at 4 stars (no partial stars which one might expect if there were a mix of opinions). I understand that cookie and IP checks are the default for polldaddy polls on WordPress.com. Is that understanding correct? Seems strange that someone would use a botnet just to push up ratings on my obscure blog.
