Website dissapeared white screen showing
Dear wordpress helpdesk/good samaritans,
I am wondering if you can kindly help. My wordpress site is http://www.lee-chong.com where I have registered the domain with a local registrar a few years ago. I started using my registrar’s domain pointing services a couple of years back until its expiry this year, which is on 9/9/2013. I have yesterday, 10/9/2013 purchased the domain pointing services from WordPress. I have also informed my domain registrar to change the DNS server to that of wordpress in order for the domain pointing to work.
My exact instructions to my registrar was as follows:-
Thanks so much for your email.
Kindly note that the below applies:-
You need to edit the name servers as our registrar to point to our WordPress website.
Currently the nameservers for this domain are:
Using the DNS tools provided by our domain registrar ie you, remove any existing nameservers and add the following:
Nonetheless, to my horror my whole website at WordPress disappeared when I changed the setting in Domain to allow http://www.lee-chong.com to be the primary default blog. I am not sure if this is the cause of it or because the domain pointing is not done correctly by my registrar or if I have missed anything here on my part.
I would really appreciate any help at all as I urgently need to get my site up again soonest.
Thank you so much in advance to any good samaritan that can help.
The blog I need help with is lee-chong.com.
I can see the site perfectly fine. :)
Me too. :)
It can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. Your own ISP will frequently be last to flush their DNS caches. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.
Dear Jcasta & Timethief,
Thanks so much for replying.
Unfortunately, I tried viewing it on my laptop and also from my colleague’s pc but we cannot see anything at all.
I did not save/ edit / update the Custom DNS Records. At the moment, the only thing showing on the DNS record is:
MX 10 smtp-fwd.wordpress.com.
Should I update or save or validate without saving the DNS records? Is this why my website has disappeared and only the heading of The Chambers of Lee & Chong can be seen?
Hope you can help.
Domain helper shows you have everything set correctly, but you are inside the 72 hour time for the internet to be updated. Also you will be the last one to see the changes because of local caching issues
Dear Timethief & Auxclass,
Thanks so much for your replies. Really appreciate it.
I suppose I will have to just wait it out and check tomorrow again then.
The site I need help with is leeandchongchambers.wordpress.com. I registered http://www.lee-chong.com with a local registrar and has subscribed to domain mapping from WordPress recently.
This morning when I went to the Domains section in Dashboard, I found that the default blog has been changed to leeandchongchambers.wordpress.com. and that http://www.lee-chong.com is no longer there as default blog. When I tried to Register or Map a Domain Name: http://www.lee-chong.com to add domain to blog, the following message appears:
This domain has already been mapped to a WordPress.com blog.
I then tried to call my local registrar to be told that I need to contact wordpress to request for them to point back http://www.lee-chong.com to my wordpress site. I am very confused as I thought by subscribing to the domain mapping service from WordPress it will be sorted out by WordPress. Please help as this is the third day that my website has disappeared and my colleagues and I need to get it up again urgently.
I would be ever so grateful if anyone can help identify what needs to be done to get our wordpress site up again.
Many many thanks!
Added the modlook tag so staff will be able to help you out.
I do find it a little strange that I’m able to see your site as a WordPress blog site but when I ran the url through the domain helper it stated that there was no domain mapping found.
Yes Jcasta, I am desperately trying to figure out as well. I really, really hope someone can help me sort this out as I really have no idea how this works….
The site is working fine. If you still cannot see it, please be patient, as it does take time for the domain records to update across the internet.
You might also try clearing your browser cache:
Thanks so much, guys! Really appreciate it. Well, I have requested for my local host to help me update the DNS Server which then allows for the domain pointing to work better.
So now, I noticed that for some browsers, the page does not load fully and some parts of the website is still missing. Is this normal as it has been 8 days since the domain pointing was executed.
Thanks again for such great support.
Note that some countries, such as Vietnam, occasionally censor the web and you will have difficulty seeing your blog during such periods.
Oh yes, sorry another thing, when I type in “Lee & Chong” in google or search engines, and when I click on the first search link that came out ie
“THE CHAMBERS OF LEE & CHONG | A topnotch WordPress.com site
A topnotch WordPress.com site (by The Chambers of Lee & Chong, Advocates & Solicitors)
Google+ page · Be the first to review
C2-3A-06, Boulevard Tower, Solaris Dutamas, No.1, Jalan Dutamas 1 Malaysia
+60 3-6205 3111
Our Team – Our Services – Gallery – Editorial”
I was directed to a page where it’s blank save for a big heading which says “The Chambers of Lee & Chong – A topnotch WordPress site” and the rest of the page is white and underneath it says Nothing Found. This means that if people type in Lee & Chong on search engines and they click on the first link, they will be led to an empty website.
I hope someone can really help with this as I can’t seem to figure it out. I hope our website is back to normal again and that people can actually access our website. Thanks again for such great support from you guys!
Thanks, raincoaster but we’re in Malaysia next to Singapore and are pretty liberal and advanced in terms of technology (at least in IT anyways heheh) so I think it’s more of a technical issue as our website was running very well pretty much before the domain pointing was done. If I had known, probably would’nt have done it – didin’t know it will cause some disruptions for so long. :(
