Went to my blog an it was changed to newsworthy. Why was the blog theme changed

  1. Went to my blog an it was changed to newsworthy. Why was the blog theme changed without my requesting it or my consent? Wit 'n' Wisdom from theauntsavant

    Thank you.

The blog I need help with is

  2. To be crystal clear on this Staff never ever chnage the theme on anyone's blog.

How many Admins are there? Did you follow the recommendation to have only one Admin per blog?

If anyone is changing anything on your blog then you have provided them with the ability to do so either deliberately, or by allowing them access to your login information accidentally, or by posting content that makes it easy for them to guess what your log-in information is.

Who, aside from you, has access to your login information?

Go to your email program and change the password to a very difficult one because that's how many hackers gain access to blogs

    1. If you can log-in go here > Users > All Users and delete any user that does not belong there.

    2. Disable post by email >

    3. Disable post by voice >

    4. Change your blog password to a very difficult one >

    5. Use a secure, encrypted connection to connect to your Dashboard. Under Users → Personal Settings, check the box that says “Always use HTTPS when visiting administration pages, and click Save Changes.

    6. Set up two step authentication

Then read this please knowing that blogs don't get hacked when security protocols are followed. >

    P.S. I flagged this for Staff follow-up.

  3. @ theauntsavant - According to our records, you switched your theme from Ari to Newsworthy on June 14, 2013. This change was made by your user account. If you are concerned that your account was hacked, we highly recommend changing your account password. You may also want to take some of the additional security steps highlighted by timethief.

You are also welcome to change your theme back to Ari by going to Appearance > Themes in your dashboard. If you have any questions about this, please let me know!

  4. Thanks for your help, RachelMCR!

I was hacked! I didn't change my theme. I thought it was changed by
WordPress Admin. But I've changed my password, so hopefully that
    will rectify the problem.

Also can I start another blog and customize some of the features, like adding a front page column with space for a small photo at the top?

  5. To prevent anyone from guessing your password and accessing your account without authorization, please make sure you select a strong password for your account:

    Selecting a Strong Password

You are welcome to set up a new blog by logging in to and going to this link:

The exact features of your blog will depend on the theme you select for it. If you would like additional help customizing your blog's appearance, please start a new forum thread with your questions. Thanks!
