We wonder what added features do we get buying a custom CSS from WP. We know very well and discussed very well in forums many times that Javascript like features are not available in any way on WP.com hosted blogs. So, What exactly do we get with Custom CSS? We’d appreciate if someone list out in detail the advantages and features of custom CSS, possibly in a bullets format so as to help us and other bloggers to understand on this feature.

The advantages of it is you can modify your theme’s CSS. The disadvantages is that you have to know at least some CSS to understand what you’re doing.

… detail the advantages and features of custom CSS …

    The Short Version

When it comes to the css customization option, the only advantage that I am aware of is that it gives you the ability to change the appearance, but not the functionality of your blog.

    The Long Version
As you have discovered, at wordpress.com we are on a shared multiuser blogging platform and we are not allowed to use iframes, forms, some media embeds and styles, etc. or javascript whether or not we choose to purchase the css customization option.

At worpress.com we cannot edit the underlying templates of our blogs whether or not we choose to purchase the css customization option for security reasons.

    Two wordpress.com options.

If you do not wish to use one of the themes made available at wordpress.com through your admin section -> Dashboard -> Presentation -> Themes then you can choose to undertake css customizing a wordpress.com theme to change it’s appearance to suit our personal taste but if you want total control of your blog template i.e. the ability to edit it, then you must move to self hosting or to a web host where you can and download and alter a free wordpress.org template.

CSS customization can be used to improve on any existing wordpress.com theme; you can define your own classes for use in posts; you can select the Sandbox theme and build on one of the Minimalist layouts or, opt for no stylesheet and do it all yourself. If you feel you are up to the challenge of customizing a theme then these link, link, link will be helpful.

Although there is a forum and other bloggers may volunteer to help you if needs be, there is no staff support for css customization. There are also css resources that you can access listed in the FAQs blog.

The 15$ you pay to upgrade a wordpress.com blog enables you to to alter the appearance of your theme and but not the underlying php code in the template. Purchasing the upgrade entitles you to customize css on one blog for one year.

You’d be surprised how much the GUI can help functionality. CSS is extremely powerful.

It is well worth the $15.00/year –a few pennies per day.

With a couple of tools like W3schools.com and Firebug, you will easily be able to find the tags to customize and make your blog not only unique, but functional, especially in terms of navigation –which is one of the most important keys to a well designed website.

    hello to everyone,

css is a client side technology that allows us to modify the layout of our pages and themes. change the size of the font, the boldness, underline, capitalise or not.use css with images and borders. it is applied in the html code generated from the underlying php server side code, or from our original html code.it has no access to our file system or databases and it is harmless. with css and javascript one can achieve stunning effects for their web site. it is a pity that for security reasons javascript is not permitted.
