What is Luminate?

  • I see Luminate ads on this post http://raincoaster.com/2014/03/29/bombay-martini-with-a-rainbow-chaser/ but not on my others. They don’t have “About these ads” on them. They appear overlaying both images directly uploaded to the post AND to twitpics. Are they Word Ads or what?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • For what it’s worth I don’t see them – either logged in or “incognito”.

  • Yes, we’re testing a new ad type with Luminate. We announced it over at the private WordAds Group Blog, which you should have received an invitation to a while back. Would you like me to send you a new one? (I can’t reveal the URL on the public forums.)

I can disable the Luminate ads on your blog if you’re not too fond of them.

  • I am having the same issue on my blog, Raincoaster, but not on all posts. I just noticed it on http://pegoleg.com/2014/02/27/my-life-is-a-pert-diagram/ and a couple others.

I don’t mind ads (everybody has to pay the rent) but they are laying in over the top of my pictures. Can they be moved?

  • Yes, I have removed them from your blog as requested.

Would you like to share any additional feedback on the Luminate ads?

Also, do you have access to the private WordAds Group Blog?

  • Are you talking to Raincoaster? Because I don’t necessarily want the ads REmoved, just moved so they don’t cover up the picture. Would we have received an invite to the WordAds Group Blog when we first started hosting ads?

  • No, that reply was directed to you. :)

The Luminate ads are image overlay ads, so they will cover parts of some photos. The only way to prevent that is to disable the Luminate ads.

Yes, you would have received an invitation to the private WordAds Group Blog when you joined WordAds. Would you like me to send a new invitation?

  • Thanks for the response. If the ads have to overlay images, I’m not that big of a fan. I’ve seen these on the bottom of video clips and they’re not that intrusive there, given that you can’t view a video without clicking on it. But with an image it waters down the immediate impact and possibly confuses the viewer.

Would you please resend the invitation? It is probably located at the bottom of my junk-drawer of an inbox.

  • It looks like you have blocked Invitation emails, which would explain why you never received one. :)

Do you have “Block all email updates” checked at https://wordpress.com/settings/notifications/ ?

  • To be quite honest, I LOATHE image overlay ads and would very much like the opportunity to opt out of them. I can see that they allow ads to be shown in much more locations on a blog, particularly on themes not optimized for WordAds, potentially vastly increasing the income, but I am not sure I want them on raincoaster.com. I can only imagine the furor when photoblogs find out this is going on. After all, the name of the program is WordAds.

An opt-out option for image overlay ads seems like a sensible choice.

And yes, I’d like an invitation to read that blog.

  • Not a problem, I have disabled them on your blog as well.

If we continue, there will be a way to self-opt-out. We just rolled this out to small set of randomly chosen WordAds blogs, so giving everyone an option to self-opt-out from something they more than likely don’t have would be a bit odd.

I have sent an invitation to you for the private group blog. Please check your spam folder if it’s not in your inbox within the hour, and don’t forget to follow the blog! :)

  • Hello,

I personnally don’t have any issue with pictures and luminate but it seems there is a conflict between luminate script and the notation system.

For example, on my home page, you can see all posts available on my website but the notation system is not displayed anymore (and it’s recent!) even if in settings, this options is activated (I tried to disable it and activate it again without any success :().

However, if you open a page or a post, then the notation system is there!

Tried on 2 computers / browsers and same problem.

I think that is due to luminate script as I can see a problem with the loading of this script… But it’s possible that another thing breaks the notation system.

    Any idea about that?

  • Senor

I am having a huge problem with luminate.com delaying the loading process for Southwestphotojournal.com, it’s taking five minutes for the first feature photo to load and all the time, the browser is screaming “waiting for information from luminate.com”, please take this off my website, this is not a plus and it hurting my traffic and sense of fair play.

  • Hi! I was just checking in to make sure the new ads are wordads approved. I love them. and I did not get an invite to the super duper secret place.

I thought I was your favorite, macmanx! :)

  • kenwood31, would you please clarify what you mean by “notation system”? If you mean comments, your theme only displays comments on the single post pages, never on the front page.

pkweis, it looks like Jeremey has already taken care of this for you: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/cant-publish-9?replies=8#post-1731987

tamaratattles, I have sent another invitation to you. :)

  • @macmanx:

By notation system, I mean the rating normally displayed after the title (with stars), see screenshot below:

  • Disabling the Luminate ads made not difference, it would appear that either it’s a separate issue or your theme never supported ratings on the front page (some don’t, despite the option in Settings).

Would you like me to re-enable the Luminate ads?

  • If you want you can as I don’t have any other problem with it :)

Concerning my theme, the rating system was displayed a few days/weeks ago, so this issue is really recent and as I saw the loading of Luminate.com is slow, I throught that was the problem…. But apparently, it’s not the case.

    Anyway, thanks for your answer.

  • You’re welcome!

I have re-enabled Luminate as requested.

  • Hi guys

My site is loading fine now absent the laminate.com ads. Laminate.com seems to have been the whole problem, it was constantly waiting for information from Laminate.com, waiting, waiting, waiting for five minutes. Now it is fine. It seems to me, Laminate.com, is an idea whose time is yet to come….glad its gone…..pkw/southwestphotojournal.com
