I’m in the process of setting up a (food/recipe) blog and everything has been going great with the exception of all the choices of subscription type services. I don’t know whether to use feedburner or the widgets available on wordpress.com (blog subscriptions and/or RSS Links, etc.). Looks like a lot of blogs use feedburner but don’t understand what kind of advantages that would have over some of the wordpress.com widgets. I can’t really find much as far as advantages/disadvantages of what to use or what most people use.
I’d like to set something up before my site goes “live” and I start building traffic but not sure what most blog readers/visitors would use and would hate to set something up then have to change it.
If you use feedburner and decide to change to a self hosted blog using WordPress.ORG software you can transfer the new blog feed to your feedburner and your subscribers get the same email – if you use the built-in WordPress.COM subscribe feature your subscribers need to resubscribe to continue to get your email alerts if you move to a new blog / address. Usually a few people get lost in a transfer that requires them to subscribe again.
