Where did my old posts go?
Staff have been introducing “infinite scroll” to themes — a site wide change. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/to-infinity?replies=137
See here for Disabling Infinite Scroll on your WordPress.com Blog http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2012/03/16/disabling-infinite-scroll-on-your-wordpress-com-blog/
The next post and previous post links have been replaced by “Load more posts” links. Note that “disabling” the infnite scroll feature changes it from loading automatically to loading via the “Load More Posts” tab, and you can’t disable that “Load More Posts” tab from appearing without the Custom Design upgrade. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/
Thanks, but that’s part of the problem. I disabled infinite scroll, but it only allowed me to load more posts
, and it only loaded 4-5. There was not an option to continue to “load more posts” after that first click. Enabling infinite scrolling still only shows a certain number of posts, 5-10, but there is no further way to scroll. I have a floating banner at the bottom of my page that shows my blog name and theme, but clicking it only brings me back to the top of my blog. I have no access to all of my previous posts, whether infinite scroll is enabled or disabled. Any suggestions?
I have flagged this thread for Staff attention as Volunteers can’t help you with this and only they can.
Thank you, I appreciate your time and quick responses, along with assisting me by alerting Staff.
You can’t disable infinite scrolling and restore the “Older Posts” navigation link without the Custom Design upgrade.
The only other thing you can do is set a static page as your blog front, and add the Recent Posts widget and the Categories widget at the top of your sidebar.
You currently have your blog set to show 400 posts on the front page and the feed.
This will cause your blog to load in about 3 to 5 whole minutes for the average visitor, if it doesn’t crash the browser first (which happened to me).
At Settings -> Reading, please lower that to something much more average, like 10. I know it sounds unrelated, but that may very well clear up your problem, and your readers will thank you.
Yeah, I’ve been experimenting with different post quantities. I can get all of my posts to load if I set it at 400 or above, but as you said, it takes days to load. I’ve toyed with different numbers, but I can’t find any way to load fast and show my pages.
Custom Upgrade? Sounds like a way to fix a problem by charging for the solution. :-)
Why not just enable Infinite Scroll? It displays 7 posts at a time and just loads new posts as the visitor scrolls down. It’s like having 400 posts, but without the horrific load times and browser crashing.
Great idea, but as I mentioned earlier, when I enable infinite scrolling, it only allows me to scroll once, then it no longer scrolls and I still have no access to older posts. I would have no problem if it scrolled seven posts each time, but I don’t get a second chance to scroll.
Ok, that’s definitely a problem we should fix, no reason for any complicated work-arounds there.
Would you please re-enable Infinite Scroll so I can take a look?
Yes Sir, thank you very much for your assistance! I just enabled infinite scrolling, and the posts per page count, if it matters, is set to 10. Everything seems to stop at my post on April 16th, with no way to see posts older than that unless I put the post count up to 400.
This appears to be fixed now. I believe you may have encountered an issue that we fixed earlier today.
Would you please check to confirm? You may need to clear your browser’s cache first.
I just checked, and it is still not working. I use Firefox 13.0.1, and it still stops scrolling after the April 16th post (approximately 14 posts, so it sounds like it scrolls twice then stops). This happens whether logged in or as a guest. I cleared all the cache files prior to the attempt and restarted Firefox.
I tried it in Explorer and it scrolled fine logged in and as a guest, so it must be an issue WordPress is having with Firefox. Not only do I use Firefox, but the majority of my followers us it also, so this is an issue I hope you can resolve.
Thanks for your assistance and support!
That is very odd. Firefox 13.0.1 is what I use, and it works just fine. Did you try clearing your browser’s cache?
If so, try temporarily disabling all of your add-ons too.
Thanks, you’re my hero. :-) I cleared my browsers cache each time, with no effect. Your suggestion about add-ons was spot on though. By disabling and enabling each add-on,clearing the cache after each change, I was able to isolate it to AVG securities Do Not Track, ver12.0.02189. All other AVG add-ons and AVG anti-virus work great, but I couldn’t scroll more than two times until I disabled the Do Not Track feature.
