Where is "Tools?" Want to delete old mysite.wordpress.com blogs?
Just realized I have an ancient wordpress.com account that’s attached to the same email address as here at .org. I don’t need the old wp.com any longer. I did research on deleting the old blogs, but gave up after 30-minutes of not being able to find “Tools” after clicking “Dashboard.” Here are the directions I followed.
Directions 1: http://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/
Directions 2: http://www.wikihow.com/Delete-a-WordPress.Com-Blog
The only thing that appears under “Dashboard” is Home, Comments I Made, Site Stats, My Blogs and Blogs I follow. Then under that, Profile and Collapse Menu. Any idea what I’m doing wrong?
The blog I need help with is www.websiteblueprint.com.
The blog you specified at http://www.websiteblueprint.com does not appear to be hosted at WordPress.com.
This support forum is for blogs hosted at WordPress.com. If your question is about a self-hosted WordPress blog then you’ll find help at the WordPress.org forums.
If you don’t understand the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, you may find this information helpful.
If you forgot to include a link to your blog, you can reply and include it below. It’ll help people to answer your question.
This is an automated message.
This is why I need to delete these old blogs from .com. And close my account. I use .org now.
Are the blogs you want to delete WordPress.ORG installs or WordPress.COM blogs?
If WordPress.ORG are they linked with the stats package or JetPack?
To delete a WordPress.COM blog you need to be logged in as the EXACT account / user that owns the blog and be an Admin on that blog.
The Dashboard you describe is not one that is an Admin for a WordPress.COM blog. Is there another account you might have used to open any WordPress.COM blogs?
If the blogs are WordPress.ORG installs using JetPack – the staff will need to remove the blogs for you – but they will need you to list the exact .ORG blogs you want removed.
I will flag this for staff attention also in case you need JetPack blogs removed
I’m really confused. I have no websites that I use on a .com account (that I’m aware of). I do have 5 live blogs that are listed here at .com, but they’re not .com blogs (meaning there’s no mysite.wordpress.com subdomain). Any blog I have are normal business blogs that as far as I know have nothing to do with .com.
I can only assume that I logged in here years ago and saw a list of fields to add blogs so I did because I thought I should. I see the same prompt now over at .org (and there’s no explanation why I should add my blogs…I’m sure I just did the same thing here years ago).
I would have never known this .com account still existed, but I commented on a blog post last week (which I rarely do) and someone contacted me through a website contact page I hadn’t paid much attention to for years. That’s how I discovered I had an account here under a really old username.
Lately, I’ve been asking questions at wordpress.org and happened to figure out I had both a .com and .org account. Both with the same email address, but different usernames.
I guess what I need to find out is to confirm if the live blogs I have listed here in my .com account are controlled in any way with this .com account, which I would doubt. Any suggestions on how I can tell?
Ultimately, if I don’t have any mysite.wordpress.com blogs and the current live blogs I have listed here are not effected by anything here, the best thing I could hope for is to just shut down this whole .com account.
Sorry to get into so much detail, but I don’t know what’s going on or how to figure out what to do about it.
Can you list the URL’s of the blogs you are looking to delete? That will make the conversation easier I think.
@rootjosh. Thank you and sorry for the delay. I’ve been on the road.
Below are the blogs listed in this .com account. I got these off the “My Blogs” page. The top section had no particular heading. The bottom section had the heading, “Linked Blogs.” I put an * in front of actual, live blogs. But, these are not .com blogs, they’re .org blogs (on my own URL).
22webrules.com – 22webrules.wordpress.com
Formula 52 – formula52.wordpress.com
My Blog – radioadvertisingtips.wordpress.com
Radio Advertising Center – radioadvertisingcenter.wordpress.com
Salesimaging96’s Weblog – salesimaging96.wordpress.com
*www.websiteblueprint.com – http://www.websiteblueprint.com
http://www.iradiosales.com – http://www.iradiosales.com
*www.radioadvertisingtips.com – http://www.radioadvertisingtips.com
http://www.radioadvertising101.com – http://www.radioadvertising101.com
10 Web Rules – http://10webrules.com
22 Web Rules – http://22webrules.com
Business Builder etips – http://bbetips.biz
*Radio Sales Blog – http://iradiosales.com/blog
radioadvertisingcenter.com – http://radioadvertisingcenter.com
salestech101 – http://salestech101.com
Okay, just so I’m clear. The blogs with a * next to them, you do NOT want deleted from your My Blogs list?
The have nothing to do with .com, so as long as deleting them from the list does not effect the actual live blog, delete everything. That would be awesome.
So, remove all sites that are in the “Linked Blogs” list from your My Blogs list, correct?
Do keep in mind that any self-hosted sites with active Jetpack connections are going to show up in the “My Blogs” list. Removing them means that they will no longer be connected to Jetpack. If this is important to you, please let me know.
Thanks. I don’t use jetback connections. Remove anything and everything you can here out of .com. My goal is to close this whole .com account (too confusing with the .org account). Once we get everything out/deleted, I can add the “*” blogs to my list over at .org. That’s my hopeful end goal. Thanks for helping me, @rootjosh.
Okay, I think I got all the linked ones. Can you double check for me?
If you also would like to delete your WordPress.com sites, there are options and instructions for doing so here:
Thanks for your help. Still a little more to go. So, I deleted the remaining wp.com blogs I had never used. You’ll see those links that I clicked below. I did this as I followed the directions in the link you provided.
Now, when I click “My Blogs” on the top of the page menu, there are 3 listed as you can see in this screenshot: http://note.io/1gdSXLj. The businesstech101.com needs to be completely deleted (I’ve never used it). But, I can not find how to do this. The http://www.radioadvertising101.com and http://www.iradiosales.com are live blogs, but have nothing to do with wp.com. I would like to get them out of wp.com and register them at my .org account (username: gmurray96). I see there is a place in my wp.org account where I can list my blogs (see here: http://note.io/1gdULDU). How do I get these blogs out of .com and over to .org? Of course, I don’t know if I have to have my blogs listed over there, so they can be deleted out of my .com profile, as long as the actual live blogs are not deleted.
Finally, I do not see my websiteblueprint.com blog in my wp.com list any longer, but it’s still listed as my primary blog as you can see here: http://note.io/17ViQQ0. So, how do I get this over to my .org account?
Once these final 4 blogs are taken care of, I can close this wp.com account and be done with it.
I appreciate your help. Here are the five confirmation emails of the blogs I deleted:
The blogs that you are seeing listed are indeed WordPress.org sites, but they are connected to WordPress.com via the Jetpack plugin. Jetpack gives added functionality to your self hosted sites, and is tied to a WordPress.com account so that it can make use of our servers over here. You can read more about Jetpack at http://jetpack.me.
If we delete your blogs from ‘My Blogs’, then it will also disconnect them from Jetpack, and lose all of that functionality. If you are sure you want to do this, write back to confirm the three URLs, and I’ll take care of that for you.
I believe that the screenshot of your WordPress.org account simply lists the blogs that you have on your profile – they can be hosted anywhere – so all you need to do is fill in the addresses in the boxes; it won’t affect any of them directly.
The same applies to websiteblueprint.com over here on WordPress.com. The link under your profile here is just that – a link. It doesn’t connect up your blog in any way; it just lets users who view your profile know that that is your blog. If you want, you can just delete this information.
I hope that helps clear things up!
Let me know if you have any more questions.
No problem – I’ve gone ahead and removed these blogs from your account.
Let me know if there’s anything else that I can help out with!
Great. Thanks. Finally, how to I close this .com account? I’m not using it and the email address being used is the same as my .org account, which is causing a conflict when I’m making comments on some blogs (sending people back to this old .com account, versus my active .org account).
WordPress.com accounts are permanent ( more info here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/ ), but you can change your e-mail address registered against your account by going to:
and following the instructions.
