Im a currently using Wix, but I am reaching difficulties with my homepage when I want to add a shop.
I am thinking about changing it to WordPress, but it seems that I can’t start building a website without starting with a new domain or add my current to wordpress. Can I choose a website and later add a ecommerce to it or change it to website mode?
You don’t have to transfer your domain right away, no.
All sites on WordPress.com get a free WordPress.com or .blog subdomain when the site is created, that functions just like any regular subdomain, and your site is fully online and accessible at that subdomain (provided you set it to public).
So you can experiment and build your site at that free address, even upgrade the site while still using the free address, and only switch the domain over to us once you’re ready.
Just keep in mind if search engines index your site at the free address (if it’s set to public) and you then add a custom domain, this could cause issues with SEO, as search engines will need to re-index the site at the new domain. But those should be temporary.
