i bought my domain and hosting through dream host. when finances got tight i cancelled dream host and moved it to wordpress a couple months ago, my site has been working great until this week. the ‘who is’ has expired on my site, how do i change it to wordpress, and what info do i need to put on it for wordpress??

Please someone help, my site is just now starting to do well, and i don’t want to lose all my followers!

The blog I need help with is oursimplealaskanlife.com.

You need to renew the domain name with Dream Host. WordPress.COM is not set up for incoming domain name transfers. Your domain name needs to be not registered with WordPress.COM.

You have domain mapping in place it looks like. When you renew the domain name registration the name servers can be pointed back to WordPress.COM and oursimplealaskanlife.com. should start working as soon as the changes migrate across the internet (changes start in a few hours but can take up to 24 to 72 hours for the internet to be updated)

Speed is very important at this point with the domain name registration renewal, some registrars have a short grace period then a penalty is charged.

If you try and just let the domain name revert to the wild and it can take up to 60 days for the domain name to be released and there is no guarantee that you can re-register the domain name and it might be sold at auction or snapped up by a domain name squatter and held for ransom.

You should be able to get your web site visible with the old WordPress.com name by going to

Dashboard >> Store >> Domains >> set the primary back to the base WordPress.COM name.

I will also flag this the the staff to help in case you need help

    Hi there Wendy,

In order to get your domain oursimplealaskanlife.com working with your WordPress.com blog, you’ll need to log into your Dreamhost account and change the domain’s name servers so they point to WordPress.com. If you’re unsure how to do this, take a look at Dreamhost’s support documents and if you’re still having trouble, you may want to contact their support dept.

You can find the WordPress.com name server information you’ll need in this support document:

it was working just fine, then i guess dream host removed it because it was u for renewal. i paid the renewal last night, and it still is not up. and now i can’t access my dashboard either, and i could get to it last night. i’m really getting frustrated, as i am really ignorant about stuff online. there are only a few things that i know how to do, and that’s it. i have emailed dream host twice now, just waiting to hear from them as to how long it should take.

Many registrars change the name servers when the domain registration expires, that tends to get the domain owner’s attention.

Yes double check with Dream Host to make sure they have changed the name servers back to WordPress.com. Once they do that it can still take 24 to 72 hours for changes to reach the far corners of the internet, but changes usually start after a few hours but can be erratic until the entire internet is updated
