Why are ads still appearing on my blog?

  1. I purchased the No-Ads Upgrade and the payment cleared, but ads are still appearing (I have cleared cookies and cache in my browser).

The blog I need help with is

  2. What type of ads are you seeing and where are they placed?

You may have a contaminated browser add-on, toolbar or extension.

  3. One across the top and one in the right upper corner. Take a look for yourself at :

  4. To off-set the costs of providing free hosting to millions of bloggers, has been running advertising on our free hosted blogs since 2006. Many bloggers do not know this because despite the fact they ticked the box required to get a free blog, they did not read the ToS. Many also do not read the advertising entry in the support documents after registering their username and blog(s). Also note that as the ads do not display to us when we are logged in, and as many use browsers with ad blockers when logged out, they may not realize they are there at all.

If the ads you see are found at the end of blog posts then what you are seeing is generated advertising. does not use text enhance or text link ads or pop-up ads or links in comments. If you are seeing those then that's a browser-ad-on issue, or in some cases, it's embedded into free games downloaded from the internet. See here: Bloggers: Beware of Adware.

If what you are seeing whenever you save or update a post or page is an automatically added code/script block at the end of posts and pages that you can't delete then see here: Malware Targets Macs and Windows PCs

Please take a screenshot of it, upload it via Media -> Add New to your Media Library. Then return to this thread to post the file name to let Staff them know it's there for them to view.

  5. I saved a screenshot in my Media Library named: wordpressads.jpg

  6. Thanks. I tagged this thread for Staff to examine it.

  7. Hi there,

Do you see under the ad in the image you uploaded, it says "This ad not by this site"? That indicates that this is probably caused by a browser extension (I don't see any ads on your site, by the way). You may want to check your Firefox extensions and make sure you don't have any enabled that you don't want. Try viewing the site in Chrome, to double check that it's Firefox injecting the ads.

Let me know if you have further questions or would like more help stepping through what you should do.

  8. Thanks. Yeah, apparently they weren't ads from WordPress, but Adware via Firefox. Now I'm wondering if I really needed to purchase the No-Ads Upgrade after all. Oh well, I suppose it's too late to cancel it for this year. I'll just have to remember to not renew it.

How would I tell if an ad was placed by WordPress ? Just by the absence of the "This ad not by this site" message?

  9. If the ads you see are found at the end of blog posts and you see this About These Ads link, then what you are seeing is generated advertising.

  10. If you'd truly like NoAds removed, I'd be happy to refund you - just let me know :)

  11. Since the ads were not from WordPress, the No-Ads Upgrade seems unnecessary for a small non-profit with limited funds. So please engineer some happiness for us by issuing a refund ;o)

Of course, once the refund goes through, WordPress ads will probably start to appear . . .

  12. Hi there,

I've refunded this and removed the upgrade for you! The refund will take up to 7 days to reappear on your statement. It usually takes less than that, though.

Ads appear to users or users who aren't logged in.

    I hope that's helpful!
