Why are PDFs I deleted still visible on the web?

I deleted all my pages and all my media, yet this page http://byelka.files.wordpress.com/2010/05/joriinfo2.pdf still shows up online. How long until it goes away? Or how do I *make* it go away?

The blog I need help with is byelka.wordpress.com.

That is up to the search engines. With Google, 3 to 6 months (Assuming it isn’t linked to from another site. If it is, then perhaps it will never disappear.).

With Yahoo, possibly 3 to 6 years. They never seem to update their indexes for deceased sites or pages.

You can go into your Google webmasters account and use the URL Removal Tool.

If you have deleted a web page or an image and it has been removed from the server and, the URL returns a 404 page not found error, then you can request Google to remove the page from their indexed cache. Remember the URL of the page to be removed must return a 404 error otherwise this tool will not work.
See > Remove a page or site from Google’s search results

@byelka, sometime files do not delete from WP.com even if you delete them manually. I would contact support if you can still access the file after 24 hours (I would check the file from another browser as your browser may have cached copy….just in case).

/~waving to all the support volunteers above. I think byelka is referring to file uploaded on h/her blog and not search engine links.

    Ahh … I didn’t realize that.

Also, deleting it from a post does NOT delete it from the media library.
