Why are some spam getting through as comments to moderate?

  • In the past week, Spam comments are showing up as comments to moderate. Here is one as an example, which I have altered slightly with the addition of spaces in the email address and URL.
Another that arrived the other day was a page long.
I have begun to add words to a block list, as previously suggested, but things like “skin cancer” or “gay porn” are two words and don’t fit your suggested parameters.
Thank you for all you do to keep our blogs safe.

  • Hi there! The only spam comments I am seeing at the moment are in your Spam box. If one appears again in your inbox, make certain that you mark it as Spam rather than deleting it immediately. I know that’s difficult with Spam, since none of us like looking at it in our inboxes. When you mark a comment as Spam, you are “teaching” our Akismet system which emails to filter in the future.

Here is a link about unwanted comments and Spam:

I sounds as if you are using your Comment Blacklist function. Please make certain that you are also adding the email address of spammers.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Sometimes new spammers pop up and it takes us just a bit of time to catch up with them. Sorry you’re dealing with this — we are working to make your experience with Spam less irritating :) Wishing you the best!
