Why can I no longer add YouTube videos?

I can no longer add YouTube videos as before. When I click “Add Video”, only the message “Grab the VideoPress upgrade” appears. But the VideoPress upgrade does not seem to be needed for YouTube videos. When I click “other external services” (which are said to be “for free”) at the botttom of that message, and then “YouTube”, it says “To quickly embed a YouTube video, simply copy the video’s URL” and “paste it on a line by itself in your post/page editor…We take care of the rest! The video will look something like this:”. An image of how it should look follows. But the video doesn’t look something like that when I follow these instructions. Only the URL appears. Under the question “How can I embed videos and other media on my site?”, it says the same: “For…YouTube…you can just paste a direct link to the page in a blank line in a post or page. WordPress will take care of the rest…”. But again, WordPress does not take care of the rest. Only the URL appears. This way of adding YouTube videos never worked. I always had to click “Add Video”, “From URL”, and paste the URL there. Only then did the video look the way it should look like according to you. But now it is impossible to click “Add Video” and “From URL”, since only “Grab the VideoPress upgrade” message appears when one clicks “Add Video”.

I’m very sorry to hear that you’re having this problem. Would you be able to provide me with the link to the YouTube video you want to insert into your post?

You should be able to simply copy and paste the URL into your post and have it embed directly into your site. I’d like to take a look at the video you’re trying to insert to test some things out on our end.

Thanks evarlese for your reply. I have never been able to do that with ANY YouTube URL. I discovered that this didn’t work the first time I posted a video about two years ago (this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIQQv39dcNE ), following the WP instructions. Only the URL itself appeared in the post. But then I discovered that I could click “Add Video” and then “From URL” and paste the URL there. Then it appeared as it should. Again, the problem is with ALL YouTube videos: I have tried again several times, with many different URLs, to do it according to the WP instructions, and it never ever works. And the more immediate problem is that I can now no longer post any YouTube videos at all, since all that happens when I do it the other way and click “Add Video” is that I get the “Grab the VideoPress upgrade” message and cannot reach “From URL”.

Can you try grabbing the “Share” URL from the YouTube video? (For example, for this video it appears to be http://youtu.be/FIQQv39dcNE )

I was able to insert the URL directly into a blog post on your site and the video was embedded in the post. You only need to copy and paste http://youtu.be/FIQQv39dcNE – no shortcode necessary – into your blog post for it to appear embedded. I hope this helps!

I’m sorry, I’ve tried that too many times in the past, and now tried it again. It doesn’t work when I do it.

But the problem caused by the “Grab the VideoPress upgrade” ad is now solved, first since – only a few hours after I complained – the option “or Embed and External Video” was added to the option “Get started with VideoPress” in the ad, and then since – yesterday – the ad was removed.

So I can now embed videos again in the only way that works, and always worked, namely by clicking “Add Video” etc.
