Why didn't my import from TypePad work?
-
Hello,
I followed the Typepad instructions to export my blog. I got an email from WP saying my import had been successful, but it doesn’t appear anywhere in my blog. Any help would be appreciated. :-)
The blog I am trying to import to is greensNgoodness.wordpress.com.
Thanks very much!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Thanks… no, I’ve tried importing both the .txt and .xml formats, and though I get a successful import email, my posts still don’t show up. :-(
-
Too bad. I thought it might be the file extension issue. I’ll tag this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

Ah! I got it to work by using a paid service that converted my TypePad export to a WordPress format file. :-)

Oops… spoke too soon… a bunch of my posts weren’t imported. I deleted all my posts from the WordPress blog and verified that they’re all on the TypePad export. I think maybe someone needs to be reset on WordPress’s end, as it seems the file uploads fine, and it says it’s successful, but no posts appear. Sorry for the frustration… any suggestions are appreciated! I’ve spent most of my day at this… :-)

greensgoodness,
Did you use TP2WP’s conversion service? If so, you’ll need to import your converted file into a self-hosted version of WordPress, rather than WordPress.com. This is because our method of converting a TypePad site to WordPress requires using our custom version of the WordPress importer, which is only available on self-hosted WordPress sites.
Please contact me directly at (email visible only to moderators and staff) if you used our converter and need assistance.

@greensngoodness, it looks like your import got stuck, and I ended the import process.
What is the file extension of your import file, how large is it, and did you try importing it as a TypePad import or as a Blogger import?
-
Interesting string. Is there an end to this story?
I tried a TypePad export yesterday, and it didn’t work. I am trying to transport a very large blog and considering just doing the most recent 2 years, instead of the whole thing.
Looking for solutions. Thanks.

@p2hannley, could you provide more details? What is the WordPress.com blog you were importing your TypePad blog into? How large is the import file? What format (extension) is your import?
Sometimes large files get “stuck” (or connections drop long enough to cause the process to abort) so when that happens it can help to ask us to reset the importer and then try uploading it in smaller pieces.

Thanks. Now that I think about it; I guess I was not clear. I have to get the TypePad export to work before I worry about the WP import. :-(

Hi p2hannley,
Yes, sometimes getting a usable export file from another service is the hardest part of the process.
Here’s Typepad’s help document:
http://help.typepad.com/typepad_to_wordpress.htmlIt looks like this can be a tricky process, and you might want to Google around for solutions if you run into more issues. Once you’re at the import process, let me know if I can help further.
