I am trying to change the domain name of my blog, which I bought from godaddy, but WordPress says I have to pay $13 per year. Is there a way to avoid the fee?

The blog I need help with is mamashealthybites.wordpress.com.

The fee is not to change the URL of the blog: the fee is to map the domain name to your WordPress.com blog. There is no way to avoid that if you want to be hosted here and use a custom domain name, as far as I know.

    Thanks :-)
Why am I charged all of a sudden? I was never charged for my original domain. Godaddy just forwarded it to wordpress but I never had to pay wordpress. What does it mean to “map” it? Wasn’t I “mapping” my other domain?

You did pay for your original domain; you don’t get a domain for free, you just didn’t pay WordPress. Godaddy can redirect people who come looking for your old blog to your WordPress.com blog, but that’s different from making the URL of your WordPress.com blog the custom domain, which is what you’re doing with this mapping upgrade.

I see. But since I already paid godaddy for my new domain, is there a way to just have them redirect it (like they did with my old domain) and avoid making the URL of my wordpress blog the custom domain? Can I just avoid this mapping upgrade?
