I’m having trouble logging out. Sometimes log out works as it should, but mostly I might have to try 5-6 times to log out. This is when I’m on WordPress.com page. Each time a log out fails I get zeros at the left hand side under reader and Akisment word. This occurs using Google Chrome and the same with IExplorer 9. Only happening over the last week or so. I have done the cache bit and cookies. Any ideas; thanks, Bruce

    Hi Bruce,

Sorry for the hassle. I’ll be happy to help.

Can you take a screenshot of what you see when you click Sign Out from the main menu (top right) in the toolbar when logged into your account, and upload the full image to your Media Library?

Can you also try Mozilla Firefox to see if you get the same result?

Hi Bryan, thanks for helping. I’ve taken several screen shots and loaded them to my Media Library just a few minutes ago; perhaps I’ll only confuse the matter but thought a few examples would be good. I don’t have a problem logging in. Once onto WordPress.com with Reader, Stats , My Blog etc I can usually navigate okay there. It’s when I go to sign out from WordPress.com that is the problem. Sometimes it’s not a problem from my dashboard. Sometimes after apparently logging out, I can go back (after going to fresh home page) and find my WordPress.com page waiting with my picture. This occurs with IE9, Google Chrome and Google and with Mozilla Firefox but to a lesser extent. I have checked on 2 other computers, one with Google Chrome, does the same funny stuff; the other IE8, same but to a lesser extent. I have put a short description on the screen shots. The images are faint; the new Sans which I find is not kind to my eyes (sorry about that) seems the reason for that. Whether it’s coincidence or not, I seem to have dropped off a good Google images ranking (for one particular post) at around the same time this stuff started. That’s all I can tell you. I’ve checked the cookies bit and other stuff within my tech. abilities; I’ll wait for any suggestions from you before uninstalling/ reinstalling Google Chrome or whatever. I have also checked my setting for the new Sans and they are default (as advised) to Clear Type I think it’s called. Thanks for when you get to my problem. Bruce.

Thanks for the screenshots. Let’s tackle the Google Chrome issue first. :-)

Can you upgrade to the latest version of Google Chrome?

Next, can you try an Incognito window with Chrome to narrow down a possible extension issue? (Incognito mode disables all extensions, and your history/cookies in that session aren’t save once you close that browser window.)

According to Google Chrome, I have the latest version. I tried the incognito window but this did the same thing, apart from some different looking pages. I have since tried IE9 with Bing and it seems to work fine on the log in/out bit.
With both Google Chrome and M/Firefox the issue continues. Firefox is running lean since I have only loaded it on your suggestion. So is Chrome despite using for some months (on WP suggestion) because IE9 was problematic.
With Google and Firefox I still seem to arrive at WordPress.com and the page has no details under the heading from New Post to Stats, My Blog etc. When it is blank like this, usually there is a zero under the New Post heading. When I try to logout from the same window and it fails, it starts to add zero’s under the heading Automattic.
Hopefully it’s not my computer; I don’t think it is considering I got the same result on other computers. I run Vista Home Basic.
I’m hoping there is nothing odd going on with my blog.
Anyway, I appreciate your help and back to you for any next steps.

I forgot to mention; I’m not having trouble logging in/out with any other sites eg. Facebook or Twitter etc.

You’re seeing the same thing using Google Chrome on other computers? Are they on the same network/ISP?

No, all is well with your blog. :-)

Can you also try clearing your browser cache?

Also, can you disable any firewall/security software on your computer/router to reduce the number of variables that might be causing issues?

If those doesn’t help, I’d suggest uninstalling and reinstalling Google Chrome.

(For what it’s worth, I’m not able to reproduce the same issue, and Google Chrome 22.0.1229.94 is my primary browser.)

Thanks for the info. Bryan. I’ll try the next steps you suggest. Yes, the other computers ( one on Chrome and one on IE8) are on the same network/ISP which is why I didn’t go for uninstall straightaway. Bruce

You’re welcome, Bruce, I look forward to hearing your results.

    Hi andidreamed,

If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at Browse Happy please try upgrading or switching first.

If you are, please do these four things:

    1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies

    2. Make sure that you have third-party cookies enabled

    3. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.

    4. Try enabling HTTPS

Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.

Hi Bryan, sorry about the slow reply but I haven’t had much to say because I have been watching the problem slowly going away. I intentionally continued to watch when I noticed it seemed to be recovering. As I advised above, I was having the same problem on different computers (at home) which all run the same ISP. Two of these computers run Google Chrome and were having the same result. Despite earlier following your advice, the problem of signing out still remained but just before uninstalling/reinstalling Chrome, the problem started to disappear. Now, I only have a little catch sometimes but no more than before the problem started, as nothing is perfect. I’ll still reinstall Chrome any way, but I think you may have been right suggesting a link to my ISP. Something, somewhere maybe didn’t blend properly. For the benefit of AndIDreamed, I had the problem using IE8, IE9, Mozilla Firefox and Chrome. I cleared cookies left and right, caches, old files, registries etc, but the problem persisted and was evident using 3 different computers. For the time being, things are pretty well back to normal and none of the things I did had any obvious fix, although I’m sure they helped in one way or another. Thanks for your help Bryan, I don’t know if my info. helps at all but that’s the story. Regards, Bruce.

You’re welcome, Bruce, and thanks for following up with me in this forum thread. I’m glad to hear that everything is back to normal. :-)

I may have spoken too soon Bryan. Everything still is normal except the stats page. For the last few days I was having a minor glitch with all the stats info (not the graph) being in one column on the left, leaving the column on the right blank. After a refresh or going to dashboard and back etc. the stats page would be normal ie. info spread over the two columns. Now it is just staying on the left column. I have tried to move the sections over but they won’t stay there. Is this just something from my end or have things been changed deliberately? Thanks for when you get time to answer. Bruce

Bryan, please cancel request of 4/11. If I use IE 9 it loads WordPress.com normally; therefore it seems some little problem still exists with Google Chrome. Mozilla/Firefox did the same as Chrome, but it’s only a small mystery and one that is not causing any real problems. Thanks anyway. Bruce
