Why is my homepage showing incorrect number of photos in the gallery
Hi, I’m using the Dusk to Dawn theme and have recently posted a gallery post with roughly 45 pictures but my homepage only states 2 photos. I’ve checked all the support details but I don’t understand why it’s incorrect.
Also I am correct in thinking that the cover picture that appears on the blog’s homepage is automatically selected from the gallery and is not something that I can change without buying a plugin.
Sorry I’m new to all this so an advanced thanks for any help
The blog I need help with is livingthesecretsshh.wordpress.com.
On this post http://livingthesecretsshh.wordpress.com/2013/02/25/appreciate-your-past/, I’m seeing on the front page of your site that the gallery contains 5 photos.
I don’t wonder if it doesn’t have to do with the fact that you used the Gallery post format with a Slideshow. IMHO-it should work correctly, but I’ll tag this for Staff input. Please be patient while they get back to you.
You may want to subscribe to this thread from the “Subscribe to Topic” link in the sidebar. That way when there is a new reply you’ll receive notification by email.
The info on the front page doesn’t display the number of images you have inserted into the post, it displays the number of images you have uploaded via the Add Media tool of that post. So my guess is that 5 of your images were uploaded this way and the rest were uploaded via the Add Media tool of another post or via Media >Add New.
Oh dear! If so, then the front page notifications display on Gallery post format posts is broken.
Thanks, justpi (and P, check email, please? Thx)
Ok, thanks for looking into it. At least I know it’s not something that I did wrong.
Would you please give us a link to the specific post or page with the problem?
@macmanx- see my above reply “On this post http://livingthesecretsshh.wordpress.com/2013/02/25/appreciate-your-past/, I’m seeing on the front page of your site that the gallery contains 5 photos.”
However, the slideshow in that post contains a lot more than that.
Looking a little further, it may be a problem specific to the theme Dawn to Dusk.
As justpi pointed out, when using the gallery post format, the number of photos mentioned on the front page of the theme seems to only include photos that were uploaded to the post. Photos that were added from the Media Library aren’t included in the count.
From what I understand, the gallery post type really only works properly with galleries, not slideshows, but we’re looking into this.
@macmanx – Just FYI- I also tried it with a regular Gallery in the post, but only added images that I’d uploaded previously (not uploaded to the post) and there is no number of photos mentioned on the front page of my test site.
Hm, fun, looks like carry-over from before when galleries required attached photos. Thanks for checking!
This definitely affects more than just Dusk to Dawn, we’re looking into it.
Sorry for all the trouble. I’ve fixed the problem with galleries in Dusk to Dawn. The front page now reports that the gallery on this post (http://livingthesecretsshh.wordpress.com/2013/02) contains 82 photos. I counted the photos in the gallery and confirmed 82 photos, so the count is now correct.
This bug affects a number of our other themes as well, and I will be rolling out fixes for those shortly.
If you notice any other issues, please let us know.
Thank you very much for sorting this for me xx
