It seems that you are determined to deny that there is a problem.
The stats facility is broken, please listen to what people are saying and fix it!

    The url is http://antikleidi.com
Stats are about 40% lower, compared to google analytics and previous normal days.

antikleidi, I looked at https://wordpress.com/my-stats/?view=table&blog=42636379&unit=1 which shows the table summary stats for http://antikleidi.com/ and I found that the week of Oct 27 was the lowest and there was a big increase in stats on the week of Nov 10 and the stats seem like they went back to normal after that. Stats are not guaranteed to always increased. Based on the history showing in your summary stats table right now for antikleidi.com it looks like these could just be normal fluctuations in your case. Also, it’s sometimes normal to see a drop in stats of 40% if there was a really popular week and then the stats went back to the previous state after that. You also might consider that sometimes stats around the holidays or the end of the year can be lower in general.

apetcher, this is not true at all. Would you like to do some troubleshooting and go over some specific numbers?

Hi, I’d like to say that my self-hosted wordpress stats have also been all over the place these past few days, and as many have also pointed out, there is mainly a problem with UK visits registering.

My site has gone from having mostly UK view to UK views counting to around 10% of visits in WordPress Stats. Google Analytics doesn’t show such a drop in UK visits and has remained pretty stable. And AdSense is even showing more page views than WordPress Stats do which is never usually the case due to AdBlockers.

But the disparity seems to be jumping around a lot (perhaps WordPress trying to fix the problem right now?) An hour ago todays stat’s registered around 1300 page views today with rather normal UK proportions, and now its suddenly dropped to 700 page views with UK visits being dropped.
Actually this disparity is now between the iOS app stats on my website stats. The App registered 1383 page views with normal UK percentages, and the website stats showing 836 with very few UK visits.

And still Designsimply would rather blame users thn consider the possibility of a platform problem.

I’ve been blogging here for 5 ½ years. I know the behaviour of my own blog.

Please raise this as an issue.

Formerly I would have recommended WordPress to anyone. The handling of this issue is leading me to reconsider that.

I pay for a fair few extras. I expect to at least be taken seriously when I report a problem.

According to the classic stats page I’ve had 89 hits today. In total. By an external counter installed in the sidebar that’s so poor it can’t count mobile visits, I have 201 compared 82. As a rule, the plugin counter general logs *half* of the WP classic stats page.

brownhillsbob, thanks for the specifics. I really can’t comment on how outside stats services count things. However, I wonder if the stats for today just aren’t catching up as fast on WordPress.com. Can you look at the stats from past days instead of today? Today is still in progress, and another thing that might be different in an outside stats counter is how often it updates—they could definitely be out of sync so comparing stats like that hourly, or even for the same day, isn’t reliable.

    I really don’t appreciate this comment. :(

This is true! Some updates are happening in the background already based on the earlier feedback in this thread.

My site has gone from having mostly UK view to UK views counting to around 10% of visits in WordPress Stats

This is a good detail, I will try to look in on this.

Actually this disparity is now between the iOS app stats on my website stats.

    The WordPress iOS app?

App registered 1383 page views with normal UK percentages, and the website stats showing 836 with very few UK visits.

Is this discrepancy happening for today’s stats only, or for past days as well?

    #2161830

That’s unfortunate. Yet again, you focus on the outside stats counter which is installed as a check. If you reconsider what I wrote, it should give you cause or concern.

As I explained – again, if you’d read what I wrote – the sats were fixed for a period, and caught up. Now, they are broken again. I have explained how.

The stats are broken. People are telling you they’re broken. We know the behaviour we’re used to seeing.

If you don’t appreciate the feedback, try not to be so dismissive of people and appreciate that they may actually have experience of the service, it’s behaviours and can actually grasp the difference between normal fluctuations and that which is non-functional.

This experience has been the only time I’ve ever reported an issue with WordPress and it’s been an eye-opener for sure.

Bob, I apologize if you felt I was dismissive. I wasn’t aiming to be.

There is no need to go over specific numbers. Stats are not updating properly. There are pages of feedback comments here all saying the same thing. The problem requires a fix not excuses and denial of the problem. Sorry.

Thank you, accepted. It is the way it came across. I’m a small very locally focussed blog in the UK. I currently have, for today, more recorder hits from outside the UK than inside it, despite advertising a local event. That’s clearly a bit off.

Yesterday at 11pm, I was recording about 1700 views for Friday after the stats stated running again, then this was corrected to 1,900 in the interim. The day before, I recorded 502, and this was corrected on Friday to 2,250 or so. The same seems to be occurring today.

    Cheers

apetcher, some people earlier in this thread already said their stats are fixed, so I think there are either multiple issues or something was fixed then broken again or something else I haven’t figured out yet, which is why I’m asking for specifics. Also, I wasn’t here from the start on this issue, so I’m still sorting out the details. Be patient with me!

Specifics help me. It’s how I think about and track down problems.

Yes the WordPress iOS app. The discrepancy is for todays stats only now. The website stats seems to have caught up a bit just now but its still 949 to 1406, with the UK views making up the difference as far as I can tell. The website shows far fewer referrals from google.co.uk which has been the main telltale sign over the past few days as I usually rely on the website stats rather than the iOS app (which shows flags)

Anyway, the previous days are matching between website and app but they must have only caught up recently. I remember 2 days ago closed at around 1900 and yesterday closed at around 1700, but these days are now showing 2710 and 2626 with normal UK visit proportions now so seem to have recovered.

Anyway I’m happy to know that my website hasn’t been nuked by google.co.uk but a small warning message at the top of the stats page would be handy for the future to say that things are a bit out of balance. This would save a lot of drama and headaches with people thinking their website is dropping out of ranking etc.

    Thanks

This is probably the update systems did!

I read back through the problem report internally, and the team here did make some updates which should have fixed the past problem. Then they restored the stats that were missing from before. So from what I understand so far, the same problem should not be back so I have to try to figure out if you are seeing some other problem or if it’s just the stats aren’t updating as fast as you expect them to or if some people are just still not seeing all the updates from the systems team yet (the updates happened over many hours, not all at once, it’s a whole lot of data to manage).

I currently have, for today, more recorder hits from outside the UK than inside it, despite advertising a local event.

I looked at https://wordpress.com/my-stats/?view=geoviews&summarize&numdays=1 and it shows the majority of views as being from the UK. I see the exact same numbers in the “Views by Country” box at https://wordpress.com/my-stats/

Could you point out for me where exactly you’re seeing more recorder hits from outside the UK than inside it?

    It’s just taken a jump of 70 or so…

Something seems to be happening. That’s changed in the last ten minutes or so

This is very odd. It’s just taken a jump of another 40 in 2 minutes, all from the UK

I think something may be equalising

Yes! I think some updates and fixes are getting into place now and they might even still be getting worked out.

a small warning message at the top of the stats page would be handy for the future to say that things are a bit out of balance. This would save a lot of drama and headaches with people thinking their website is dropping out of ranking etc.

Sometimes we decide not do to that if the issue doesn’t affect every blog, and it probably didn’t in this case. Great suggestion though! Thank you for the feedback.

Some of stats from yesterday are equalising, but today they’re still not right.
